I want to be able to run two instances of steam and run a game on both.
So i got a laptop and a tower computer. Id like to be able to use one as a dedicated server for a few games and use the other to play them. That way i can do what i need on my main comp without tying up resources and my friends can still access the games if im doing something else. I am currently having this problem with 7 days to die. I load it on my laptop (the dedicated server program/tool) then i go to run and join the game on my other computer using just the main program and it says i gotta shut the other version down. WTF is that. A its two different programs one is a server and the other is the one to connect to it. B not everyone wants to run both on the same comp.

You cannot....not on the same account.

You would need to use 2 different accounts for this kind of play as far I know.
Buy the game twice.
Kind of defeats your purpose. But hey thats the rules.
Only one owner per this game can be playing it at any one time..
I could be wrong, correct me.

I think you may be right, I still find it odd that the dedicated server tool also counts as the game when they are two different loads.
Steam care to comment/ fix this.

There is no may. We are right. There is nothing to fix. You're not supposed to be able to use the same account on two different PC's at the same time.

If you use steamcmd you can install, update and run the server without logging in at all.

The 7 days to die dedicated server is listed as allowing the anonymous login.
