Can gift cards be charged back?
If someone else purchased a gift card from Amazon, eBay, or one of those gift card supply websites and gave me the code, would my account be in danger if that person at any given moment decided to do a chargeback on Amazon, eBay, or one of those gift card websites at any given time? Say he bought a $20 card from someone selling it on Amazon, and then he gives me the code, but then decides to do a chargeback on the Amazon reseller. And then the Amazon reseller decides to chargeback the gift card he purchased, will I lose the money if it’s been used already?

But Steam already got money from whichever retailer the original reseller bought the card from. If they bought it from Target or something and they chargeback Target, would Target then go charge back Valve?

I heard all the cards you buy from retailers come physical. The only exception is gifting digital directly from Steam.

But what if a guy bought the gift card from a reseller. Then the reseller got charged back by the guy who gave me the gift card. And if that reseller originally got the card from Target or Walmart and decides to charge back Target or Walmart, would Target and Walmart go tell Valve and my funds would be revoked? I heard that Target and Walmart are aware of the risks and they take the risks by selling these gift cards.

If you're buying online, why not just add funds directly to Steam, or just buy what you want directly on Steam then wouldn't need to worry at all.

There also key reseller sites like humble bundle, GMG, and etc... If trying to get your games a little cheaper.

I would avoid buying Steam gift cards as there new regional restrictions added on them, where they may not work for your region of the card from another region, so best to avoid that problem as well.

If you wanted to gift someone Steam funds, you can do that by using the Steam wallet gift funds on Steam itself. Please note you can't transfer Steam wallet to Steam wallet, to gift you be asked what payment method want to use either by credit card, or bank transfer such a PayPal, or etc...

Target/etc will file for fraud protection, as well inform Steam that someone trying to commit fruad which Steam will take action to removing those funds for the card.

So what happens is Steam sends the cards, Target/etc only pays when they sell the card which they take their cut, then send the rest to Steam/Valve, as it updates them what been sold need to be activated.

But will I be banned for that since I just used a card that was gifted to me and wasn’t the one trying to issue a chargeback? Will Valve just take the amount and that’s it? What happens if I use it all? Will my account be restricted if my balance is negative and until I pay it all back? But I wouldn’t be banned correct? The person banned would be the one who issued the chargeback?

Why am I banned for buying a card off someone and that someone decides later to start a chain of chargebacks? Isn’t that their fault?
KOBE SUCKS 2020 年 10 月 21 日 下午 10:22
Also does anyone know at what point most people can no longer do chargebacks?
Washell 2020 年 10 月 21 日 下午 10:26
Buy a legitimate card and avoid all the problems. If someone is selling you a $50 card for $40, clearly there's something going on.

And you would be banned because valve can't tell you bought it off someone. As far as they are concerned, you're the one who did the charge back.

Lastly, this is a common way to monetize stolen credit card data, don't facilitate crime, buy legit

What can do is contact support about this issue, and payback if somehow, but there no way for them to confirm anything if you have any ties to the scammer, or not, there no way to check on keys who had it, other than which store got it, and that was it, once someone buy it from the store it's in stranger hands as they wouldn't know who the person that has the card.

Just like Washell pointed out, if something too good to be true it's possible is, and should avoid it, as it's not a uncommon thing scammers do.

Now as I pointed there region restricted Steam cards now, because of scammers, people doing chargeback, people scam people to give them Steam cards, and so on.

So I steal your credit card and use it on Steam, you dispute the payment, who gets banned?

I think there’s a misunderstanding here. I was gifted a card and I’m saying what if that person who gifted me the card (and let’s say he bought it from Target, Walmart, or some 3rd party reseller online) decides to do a chargeback. Why would I be banned if they did the chargeback and not me?

Read my other post. I meant what if I’m gifted the codes and I use them. And then the guy who gifted me, who bought it from a third party reseller decides to chargeback the card he paid for to the original reseller. I mean what’s that got to do with me? I got the card as a gift from the guy and then all of a sudden he decides to do a chargeback.

You get banned because a purchase from your account is disputed.
