When a friend messages me, I cannot see the message.
Hello, I am having a bit of a problem and forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this. I keep getting messaged by my friend, and when I look at the chat window, it is like no message has been sent at all by them. No notification sound or anything, only on the main steam thing where it says "1 unread chat message" and even then when I click on it nothing shows up by them. When I restart steam, I can see the message they have sent me, but future messages don't show up. I would like to not have to restart steam every time I am messaged just to see the message. The issue is semi-fixed in big picture mode, however I have to stay in big picture mode and if I exit it and go back in it won't show me chat messages I have been sent while not in big picture mode. I've looked up this issue online and it seems nobody has ever had this problem, but does anyone know how to fix it?

how good is your connection to Steam? if you have a poor connection then messages may be delayed/not show up at all. Do you have specific settings for the friend to not show a notification sound? Do you maybe have the mobile app open on your phone at the same time (steam chat app)?

You should be able to go to https://steamcommunity.com/chat/and see any recent messages as well regardless of what Steam shows, sometimes I have to go here if I have a slight internet hiccup to see what someone wrote.

My connection is fine I believe, A notification sounds should play when someone messages me, I don't have steam mobile app so that can't be the issue, however the link you sent allows me to see the message and receive future ones, so thank you, a great alternative to restarting steam every time. Still though, It would be nice to resolve this issue in the steam client.

Ah, it looks like Steam chat is having an issue, this has been happening to me for last few days too, but it's alright. Valve is just a small indie company, gotta give them some time to fix it.
