How do I get Steam to recognize a game I installed from the epic games store?
I've been installing the free games from epic games store. Steam doesn't see that I have it installed. How do I get steam to recognize that I have the game?

You don't? Add it as a non-steam game since it is in fact a non-STEAM game.

They can be added as none steam games into your library. At the top - > Games -> Add as none Steam game to my library

AND just for clarity because people sometimes get confused about this, this is just for convenience and DOESN'T integrate those games into your Steam account or give them any of functionality specific to Steam purchased games. They are still tied to the Epic Store only. This is not a cross-platform situation. There's a difference between say buying a game/Steam key from the Humble Bundle store and buying the actual game from Epic.

Steam is not going to provide any kind of service it has for a game that you obtained elsewhere. The best that you can do is add it as a non-Steam game so you can use Steam to launch it. Outside of that, Steam isn't going to do anything with those EGS game files.
