You must realize you look at a screen just in front of your eyes, try pressing your face against your monitor and look how clear that looks.
On top of that, for VR you need to calculate 2 pictures, one for each eye and they need to be around 90 FPS EACH so you dont get massive motion sickness.
So you cant get much higher resolutions right now for each eye without having a monster system.
The current resolution with its slightly blurry look for everything is about as good as it gets at the moment.
In a few years when we can have 10k+ resolution for each eye in VR it will look as sharp as a flat monitor does today. But we are still a way off from that.
In the end, you get used to it after a while. If you are getting into a game you usally dont notice it anymore after a short while.
Also, if you are short sighted and wear glasses its recommended to keep them on under the headset , you can also get specific prescription lenses made by Oculus for your headset if needed.
VR is a fun gimmick but its not quiet "there" yet from a technical standpoint, at least for me.
Main reason my Rift is mostly collecting dust after the initial "woah" phase i had with VR games.
Edit: I own a Rift S and tried some other headsets.
Well thats a shame. Thanks for clearing this up
Its not a cheap gimmick even if it gotten a lot better already.
