Another option, for some games, is they'll have an invite friends feature in the game the host can click on and a list of their friends comes up with options to invite them to their game.
Another way of doing it is, again using the friends list, chat with each other. Both of you open View > Servers and set the filters for game and whatever other filters you like and chat with each other to choose which sever to join. From the servers list we can also right-click on any server that's listed and View Server Info. The window that pops up will display the IP and port address that can be copied and shared with your friend.
Another way is to, again, utilize View > Servers. Once a friend has loaded in to a game the server they're on will be listed in the Friends tab. You can join the server they're on directly by double-left-clicking on the server in the Friends tab.
The game is amazing Frog
The info on how to do it is probably explained in the game it self. If it's not the best place to ask how to do it would be on that game's forums. To get to the game forums go to the game's store page > Community Hub (button upper right) > Discussions Tab.
My sons friend is playing split screen with his brother.. we just cant mange to merge us to them!
Please excuse my ignorance.. are you saying if they play on their keyboards and not on their controllers they will be able to merge?
I looked up the forums earlier today and they were from 2017.. so alas not current?
No. I'm not saying if they use the keyboard to play multiplayer will work for 2 split screen sessions. I only glanced at the store page to see if it had multiplayer or not and saw it was split screen. Use controllers. It''ll be a lot more comfortable that way.
The game's info only indicates it's split screen. I'm assuming it doesn't have multiplayer other than that so what you're trying to do, have 2 split screen sessions join each other in a multiplayer game, isn't possible. It would need multiplayer capability for that.
I don't have the game so I don't know much about it other than what I can find by searching.
I found this that basically says online multiplayer *was* planned:

Yes, that thread is 3 years old. There's a chance that if you reply to it and someone that participated in it is still subscribed to it they'll get a notification and reply. It's worth a shot.
