Cyberpunk local library sharing, cloud saves overwrite other profile's saves
I'm sharing a computer with my partner, we each have a user account on that computer, each with their own steam account, but I am sharing my library locally (using the library sharing feature that comes with Steam) so she can also play my games. I own Cyberpunk, we both play it. Never was an issue before.
Yesterday she spent 11 hours in Cyberpunk 2077, today I played a bit. Now she wanted to play again, but her save games are gone. Wiped. And replaced by my saves. On her steam profile, on her windows account.
I noticed that once she starts the game steam automatically downloads my saves, so we both disabled the cloud sync now so steam doesn't overwrite saves without asking. It's a workaround, but please note that 11 hours wasted makes us (especially her) pretty sad and I'd be happy if someone can resolve this issue. Don't want anyone have this happen to them 100 hours in. Also I like cloud saves, but CP2077 doesn't seem to care who the account belongs to...

Update: disabling cloud saves does not solve the problem. Whenever I do anything on my profile, her saves get overwritten. In her profile. And for some reason I start to believe even if she bought the game for herself this issue could persist. Do we need a second gaming PC now? How can we both play the game? I don't even know if this is a Steam or Cyberpunk issue.

Update #2: Figured out you can start the game without steam thanks to the absence of DRM (just run the cyberpunk.exe in the game's bin folder). This solved the issue (sadly no achievements for one of us, but at least we can now both enjoy the game), will keep cloud saves turned off nevertheless.

Run separate user accounts. Pretty much every single game nowadays keep their saves local to the user profile. Meaning if you got separate user accounts (and thus profiles), your saves won't collide.

That's a generally good idea anyway. Me & my GF got separate browsing histories (obviously), separate email and so on. To manage all this, separate user accounts are the way to go.
They're already doing that. Something is copying their Cyberpunk saves from one unique user folder to the others unique user folder.

We always saved saves in our own folder (then just ctrl+c/v = boring sometimes), it worked for most games (for example CP/SAVES/Akheira/(save), vs CP/SAVES/(save) with my sister, both have our own accounts, but just one good pc for CP, BUT our "saved games" are without saves for CP... these folders are empty... just cloud have... :(

Me and my BF finally decided to buy the game again on GOG so I can continue playing on Steam and him playing on the GOG version... I desactivated the Cloud on Cyberpunk on Steam just to be sure and it seems to work for now. We only see our own saves on each account.
So sad we had to buy the game 2 times just because CD PROJEKT RED couldn't manage to consider quickly this bug affecting all families with one PC at home...

I don't think this is a problem with Cyberpunk itself, It has something to do with how Steam handles savegames - hence the workaround to run the game without Steam for at least one person - but I'm not sure if it's up to steam or CDPR to fix this.
No need to buy it a second time for your SO thanks to CDPR's renunciation of copy protection. Right click on Cyberpunk 2077 in your Steam libraray -> Manage -> Browse local files -> run bin\x64\Cyberpunk.exe (I've just put a shortcut to it on my GF's desktop). Then it will respect the logged in Windows user and stop overwriting saves for the other. Only downside is that the person running it this way won't get achievements so if you both care about them you'll have to find another way for now

It's nothing personnal. But every time I read that reply when I search for a solution to this issue, I bang my head on my desk. No one is doing that anymore. Everyone gets their windows account. Thats how you keep privacy. Of course my wife use her own windows session using her own account using her own steam user. The issue is there. It's litterally in the desciption of the original post. Like I said, nothing personnal. What gets me is that we get the same answer from steam support.

It's madning.

It's not just Cyberpunk, its many other games as well. And some works fine. But it seems like both companies, Games (Put random game broken of your choosing) and Valve just expect the other to fix the problem.

I'm losing my mind.... AND MY DAMN IN GAME PROGRESS.....

Damn it.

Wish I'd seen this thread before. My son lost all his save games. He's so fed up. Why is family sharing even possible in Steam for CP if it's not a permitted or supported behaviour? What is the point in separating separate users data into their profiles and then overwriting it with other users data when they log in? That's very lazy coding.

What I'm also not understanding is it even happening if cloud sync is switched off. How is that even possible? I'd like to understand the mechanisms here and whether there's any potential to revert. The OP said his girlfriend's saved games turned up again, which seems even more bizarre.

Family sharing is working as intended

The cloud saves are working as intended

You’re free to go scream at CDPR for not implementing native SteamClpud support which natively segregates Steam profiles save files from eachother

They did - on my profile instead of hers - but not right away, i think they appeared after logging everyone out and then launching steam just on my profile... or something. Check your own savegames, maybe your son's saves are in there.

I submitted a bug report to GOG (the only place where I could find a form to report bugs relating Cyberpunk). No clue if this reaches the right people at some point...

My understanding is that Cyberpunk 2077 does not support Family Share. Sharing of a Steam account is against the SSA.

Saves are stored locally, then uploaded to the cloud. As saves are the same, then yes, it will upload the same saves to the cloud.

Saves are not split between Windows accounts.

As you save in Cyberpunk, it starts overwriting saves (from what I have noticed). The first save I made is long gone and I am on number 22, so it starts automatically deleting them after a point.

Steam doesn't understand computers, unfortunately.

Like I have to be extra careful when dealing with my parent's computers and THEIR Steam accounts, as Steam happily "shares" stored logins between Windows accounts, and I need to leave with the auto-login set to the correct account, which is not mine. Using my own Windows account doesn't stop Steam at all.

The funny thing is, separation of Windows user accounts is actually enforced on the operating system level -- Steam had to add extra work to share stuff between accounts...

This was a widespread issue back when Windows XP was the main thing -- game developers continued to treat it like Win9x. "XP Home" reinforced that by not providing tools to work with user accounts and treating everyone like an admin, with game companies simply claiming "we don't support XP Pro" and putting saves into installation folders or on C:. When Microsoft changed that approach on Vista, game companies seemed to have adapted for the most part (it's easy enough anyway), but Steam still hasn't read the memo.

Another thing about this issue is that I played the game for the first few hours fine (as did my brother who I share a pc with, who bought it on his account). We have separate windows and steam accounts, but one day I tried playing the game and I loaded into his character and not mine. Its baffling that CDPR/Steam has not worked this out in the multiple weeks that this has been an issue. Anyone find a solution?

The best thing to do if you want your partner to get the achievements is to do the following

1.Enabling & Disabling The Steam Cloud
From the Steam Library, right click on any game and select Properties.
Under the Update tab, the Cloud Synchronization setting can be toggled

2. locate your save files %userprofile%\Saved Games\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077
3. create an backup of this folder just add something to the start of it ie your name then start new game when your partner is loged in when done you can then go name that one and remove the added name on your profile that way you have x2 folders with your diff saves would be the simplest way of doing this its how i do so playing 2 sepertate account :)

How do you use a local save file instead of cloud saves? I've lost three days of gameplay because it didn't sync properly. But I do have the up to date saves stored in userprofile%\Saved Games\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077. How do I make them show up on the load game list instead of out of date cloud saves?
