xbox controller no longer detected
I'm having an issue where steam, for some reason, is all of a sudden not detecting my xbox 360 controller. It worked just fine yesterday but steam did an update adding support for the new xbox controllers and now all of a sudden my controller isn't detected in steam.

I've tried looking through the steam subreddit but you are not allowed to ask for support there. I've tried looking through steams official support but there are no options to talk a bout non steam hardware (only official steam controllers).

I've gone into steam > settings > controller > general controller settings and uncheck/checked the box for xbox configuration support but it didn't make the controller detected.

I've unplugged and replugged in the controller (it's wired not wireless) but that did nothing.

I've rebooted my computer completely but that also did nothing.

I've looked all over the internet but can't seem to find anything that says how to fix this for linux. I'm currently running Solus. My inxi -F is as follows.

mean? I use an XB gamepad for Steam myself, but I don't know what exactly you're talking about in terms of Steam detecting it.

Try opting out of Steam beta, if you were out of beta, then opt back into it instead see if this fixes your issue.

When you go to steam > settings > controller > general controller settings your controller should be shown at the bottom of that screen. Mine doesn't show up there and it says "no controller detected"

I'm not in the steam beta.

Do your games still work with it?

Can someone help me?
I used to play on a controller when I was younger, now steam is thinking I'm on it, I can't play some games on the keyboard anymore, does anyone know how to remove a controller entirely?

Have you got another computer to try it on to prove it's working? :steamsad:

I have the same problem with an Xbox One controller on macOs Catalina after the Dec 7th update. I've tried different things for hours the past few days and nothing has worked. For my issue, what's odd is that my controller does show up detected in the controller settings and it says it loads my controller config every time I start Steam. I can confirm through other applications that the controller itself still works and all buttons are firing, but in Steam and any game I play through Steam it does not work at all.

Ensure that Xbox config is enable.

If Steam client files having issue, can try this, go to where you install Steam, delete everything expect for these TWO files "steamapp" folder, and "Steam.exe" file. once everything deleted, run Steam.exe, and see if issue been resolved.

I'm not in the steam beta.
But have you try what I said?

Settings > Account > Change > Opt into beta.

I tried it in American Truck Sim, the xbox guide button starts the truck but that's it. None of the other buttons seem to do anything. That's what clued me in to something being wrong cause I played that same game with that same controller 24 hours before just fine.

Xbox config is enabled, also tried enabling the generic gamepad option but the controller still isn't detected. I opted into the beta it didn't fix it so opted back out of the beta to see if that did but still nothing.

If I delete everything where I installed steam will it delete my saved games as well?

Depends on the game as often they would save in docs folder, or somewhere else, there good chance your game has cloud save as well, but if want to, just go into "Userdata" folder, delete "config" folder. Then keep "Steamapp" folder "Userdata" folder and "Steam.exe" file, everything else you can delete, then run "Steam.exe" afterwards, and it will redownload your client.
I disabled steam controller things, and play games.
