Locked and trying to purchase Valve Index - "This account appears to have been used for fraudulent activity."
So I almost missed the payment window (after 13 weeks waiting it went from 5 weeks away to pay now and within 7 days) I caught it on day but didn't realise my two cards had such low limits ($700 each).

I tried a few ways then though the best way would be to load my wallet in $100 increments - I got to $500 on one card then went to try to complete the purchase with the balance on my other card and it failed - my bank couldn't explain why and they said it tried to do it 4 times within the space of a minute so maybe it was the server or something.

So I log back in within an hour and it says "account alert", "This account appears to have been used for fraudulent activity.".

I have to complete my purchase by 13/10 and I've responded with two tickets - 1. please unlock with story provided above and 2. please extend the payment window (for reason 1.).

Any and all advice welcomed, I'm exasperated after calling both my banks about 10 times and checking steam every hour for a response for the last 4-5 hrs...

I can't even work because this is all I can think about (been wanting a VR headset for 7 years and finally got the courage to spend my $$$ on the best thing I could find)

Just work this out with support.
It just looked suspicious.

my guess is that, you probably got your account locked because the second card triggered a new payment method along the fact it had a recent password change.
regardless of what caused the account lockdown, only steam support is able to assist you here, so you need to send a ticket to steam support.

I hope that's how they see it - hopefully all the failures with the VISA card didnt charge back, they shouldn't have as it was just a limit issue.

I just really hope they respond to my two tickets before my payment window expires - the time is fleeting but the opposite is true for my blood pressure!

so, you wouldn't suggest a 3rd card... it has a 10k limit, but I think if I introduce that, it might ring more alarm bells with steam with what you are saying.

i am saying the fact that you changed password just recently and started tanking up large amount of steam wallet, on the account may seem super duper dodgy. if you think using a third card would help you are most likely going to be in for a surprise...

besides you can't even purchase anything from the store at this point as your account is locked. you need to get that lifted before you can basically do anything purchase related on that account.

if the 2 cards you used are in your name, then there shouldn't be an issue, i think. I would think, you won't make the cut for this index batch. that should be the least of your worries, as you got at least 500 dollars frozen on your steam account as of now that you can't spend.

To be honest, I want the VR headset no matter what - I'd pay the full amount again if it would resolve as long the 500 was eventually coming back. Cash flow isn't the issue.

Not sure how you knew I reset my PW, but yeah, I guess it was just one of the many things I forgot but I verified everything completely legitimately so it shouldn't affect their decision if this was just an auto trip of the wire.

well regardless of your money situation, at this point the "order" is on this account and this account is locked down. That means you can't really do much from this account until you resolve it steam support. then i am just making an assumption here that steam support probably won't respond to you in time.

alternative what you could do is create a new steam account and see if you order it now, that you get in this batch. if you do get in the only downside would be that you get the complimentary hl: alyx added to that account, and not your account that you are currently writing from.

i would then recommend using the third card on that new account, to make the purchase, if you do get into this 13/10 batch.

damn i got locked 5 mouth then still than can't buy anything.. already do top-up wallet to buy set but still locked now the event already.. better playing mobile phone game.. :steamsad::steamsad::steamsad::steamsad:

Well I really hope they can do better for me, even if i were to make a new account that means another ~13 week wait

Edit - thanks for your suggestions and comments by the way. I wish there was some way to call steam for this kind of thing (it is after all, a $1000 purchase) but I understand it would be flooded by millions about very little value items traded through steam and ultimately not feasible for steam.
