Bought FIFA 21 Champions edition digital code from Amazon but got "Please first activate the original game"

I bought FIFA 21 Champions edition's Steam digital code from Amazon EA game store. But when I tried to redeem it on Steam, it said "Please first activate the original game". I know this usually happens when I would like to redeem a DLC, but I don't think what I bought is a DLC (and I have confirmed with EA customer support that this edition is a complete game rather than a DLC).

Meanwhile, I contacted Amazon first and they told me to contact EA customer service, then EA told me to contact Steam and I'm still waiting for their response, but I really want to play the game ASAP. (I understand such issues with several parties may got the recursive shirks...)

Anyone has ideas about this issue?

Are you sure its a steam key? Maybe its for ea, as amazon told you to contact them as well.

they already send this information directly as a response to the user, dunno why they don't bother displaying it.

1. browser
2. browser console f12
3. https://store.steampowered.com/account/registerkey
4. submit key to enforce declinage
5. the ajaxed post response for it will contain information what you tried to activate in form of a json string, here is an example of the relevant and even readable part of it:

"line_items":[{"packageid":97929,"appid":0,"line_item_description":"FORCED SHOWDOWN - Subscriber Benefits"}]},

and that info is correct, that is what the key i used for testing was meant for.

you get the same json response when you try activating it over client, just the method to see this would be too overkill for many.

Contacted Amazon, Steam, and EA...non of them can help and kept reverting me back to one another. Guess I wasted $$$

Update: They gave my money back for my troubles. It is an error on the posting as the code is foran upgrade from standard to champions edition.
