Most played games on Steam

Hi,

For a research i'm concucting I am interested in the most played PC games of the past years. I tried using SteamDB, SteamCharts and SteamSpy for this. Unfortunately the data provided here is sorted on release year an not most popular/most played/most downloaded that year. SteamCharts does provide some insights but only per individual game. Does anyone know how I can find out what the most played games were on Steam per year from 2016 until now?

This may help you somewhat I dont think they keep a record total from 2016 to current time

Maybe some of the others members that help here more than I know of some store stats for most sold games.

You can view player number history on Steamdb. Although this means you have to collect information on what games possibly be the most popular and look up player number history on each individual pages to confirm and rank them.

For game with most owner regardless of release date, you can refer to this video. Please note that the data still has limitation (limitations explained at start of the video).
