Games not using available Bandwidth - WHY?
So here's the deal. My current internet is♥♥♥♥♥♥because I'm overseas. Given that though, I usually have a consistent 800Kbps - 1.3 Mbps download speed.

However, recently I've run into an issue where my bandwidth usage drops significantly while I'm gaming. Specifically, the games don't seem to want to use the available bandwidth. I'll have 800+ Kbps downloading, then I'll start the game and it will drop to 40-140 Kbps. Here's the kicker though. If I do anything else (i.e. use Chrome/Explorer or enable downloads while in-game), I start drawing 800+ Kbps, but the game still wants to draw only 40-140 Kbs of that. Everything else goes to the other application or background processes for Windows.

It's not a router issue as I'm not using one. I figure it has to be a steam or game setting on my computer. This happens in all games, whether playing Squad or PUBG or Rust, etc. and therefore doesn't seem to be game-specific. Can anyone tell me why my games don't seem to want to use the available bandwidth?

Games have no need to flood your internet connection with data.

That's not the issue. The games AREN'T using the data thats available. There's bandwidth to be used but the games don't want to draw from it. Not only that, but many background processes seem to take bandwidth priority over the games as well.

Your bandwidth doesn't determine your ping. That's more determined by distance from the server and the route taken.

Got it. But still, shouldn't the game be a higher priority regarding bandwidth? Even just overall connection?

If it's not using it all then it's already using whatever bandwidth it needs. That won't improve your ping or latency, only being closer to the server or having a better route along the data path.
