mic doesn't work in games.. but works in discord
Hey.. My mic used to work just fine in everything but all of a sudden a couple weeks ago it stopped working in-game. It doesn't get picked up by any of my games and it doesn't even get piced up in the steam settings when I try to test it. It still works fine in discord but it's really annoying that it doesn't work in any of my games.. pubg, fortnite, h1z1, csgo, overwatch, rainbow six siege etc... The only fix I saw for it was to uninstall gefore experience, so I did that but it still doesn't work... any ideas.. please?

bump.. I uninstalled/reinstalled discord and geforce experience and it still doesn't work in anything, still not even steam. Again, still works fine in discord..
Right click on the speaker in the taskbar on the bottom right. Click on recording devices make sure that the mic is set to default.

Why'd you reinstall discord?

yeah it's the only available mic and it's picking up from there and it's picking up in discord, but not picking up in steam or in any games..

Uncheck "Allow programs to take exclusive control..." in the microphone settings in Windows. (under the volume widget in system tray).

set your mic to be the "default recording device" in control panel.

If your problem has been solved anyplace above already, please mark the psot that answers it as a correct answer.

yeah it is default, and it's the only available device, still doesn't work though, so i just have to plug in my blue snowball if i want to talk in game

"Preferred communications device" overrides the default recording device profile if the game/app queries a different profile I suspe t. That may explain why the Mic does not work in some games. I'll bet this is pretty common and a bit more googling will let you use the Mic in the headset. Might be possible to get an idea by working out which apps the Mic works with and which it does not work with.

Sorry only time I have Mic issues is when I forget to enable Mic boosr and also to push the internal driver custom volume setting all the way up to max in device manager.

It doesn't work in any game, and it is the prefered device, it's the only available device, but it doesn't work in game anymore.

Um, what is your mic pluged into? a graphics card? Geforce experience is a dog, but should not have had any impact on that at all.

Tell us more about your problematic mic.
