Is there a way to launch a game in steam with preset saved controls?
Sorry if I am missing this somewhere, but no matter what I type in Google, all I get is "Steam controller problem" stuff, and I don't have one of those..
I have a GPD WIN 2, and even though I prefer a mouse and keyboard, I am trying to set this ♥♥♥♥♥ up to be fully mobile for my favorite games.

All I want to know is if it's possible to launch a game with a saved controller config, without having to go into Big Picture mode to load configs, etc..
If I have missed this somewhere, could someone kindly point me in the right direction?
Thank you

If that doesn't load automatically you may also have to force the controller settings on which can only be done in big picture mode. In BP mode find your game and click then select manage and then controller options and choose force on.

Hope this helps.

I thought it autoloads them by itself? At least it does so when I have my controllers plugged in.

Not sure I follow, you want GPD WIN 2 to be detected as a controller? Or wanted to act like a keyboard, and mouse in your game?

If you want it as a controller, all you have to do is get Steam to detect it as a controller, like Xbox or something.

I thought it did, too,.. but it hasn't been my experience.
I always seem to have to go into Big Pic mode to set my controls before I can play my game..
Doom 2016 is one of them..

Thx for the reply.

GPD WIN 2 is already detected as an xbox controller.. I have no problem getting it recognized.
I just cannot seem to load a game with my preferred configs in Steam.

I suspect I am doing something, or not doing something, because of my noobishness ..
But it seems that each time I boot up and try to play a steam game with my control preferences I have to go into Big pic mode.

Isn't there some command line we could put into the launch options to automate this?
Lol First time trying to work out all this stuff.. I might be probably off track
..

A little further info in case I haven't made myself clear..
I have created a control config that works good for me.
It is just that I do not know how to make it autoload with my game..
Sry for any confusion..

Well by default the controllers are already pre setup in the config for the button layout, you don't ever need to touch layout ever, unless you want to change the buttons to do something else, or to hotkey another button to that layout, if you did, you will never to revert back to default.

Now for getting controllers to work with Steam, all you have to do is go into client settings, click on controller > click on General controller settings, then check the box for the supported controller, and you're done, that easy.

Try this, enable Xbox configuration supporrt, and test, if it not working, enable Generic gamepad as well, and see if that help, if nothing disable xbox config, and test. All you're doing is checking the boxes, no need to manually touch the controller config layout as that never needed to do.

Thank you again for your reply,
However that is not the issue.
Controller works fine.
My client settings are set exactly the same way you suggested.
All I want to do is assign one of my saved controller configurations to a game,so that I can launch it without having to go into big Pic Mode and load said saved config every time before hand.

P.S. Yes, the default controls are severely insufficient for my play style on a controller..

(I think I am having difficulty refining exactly what my issue is)

Custom layout keep in mind, the game calls out for ID which only exist for the id it calls towards.

If the game has a button mapping, set that up that way, I can show an example from the screenshots when you set it up per game, but you will need to do this from big picture, once you finish this you won't need to go back into big picture. But first you want it to force use your settings you want per game, follow this.

I explain a bit more, so after I have map H key from my keyboard, to my B button on controller, everytime I press B on controller it sends H key for keyboard to tell the game, that I'm pressing H key on keyboard, even though I'm press B it's not going to reg as B because I remap it as H key for keyboard. To correct this, I went into button mapping, and put H, so now whenver I press B, it knows I'm pressing that button that I map out.

Now IDK if this same case will work for you, it should, but this can be a problem to games that don't have remapping options, to this, you will want to use some kind of 3rd party software to emulate keyboard as xbox, so when you press the key it will come up as ID Button #. So if you map H, it should come up as Button #, not as H to the game.

Yes your GPD WIN 2 will come up, that because of your built in xbox pad.

Again..

I am NOT having issues with button remapping.
I have made a controller layout that's suited for my style and it works fine.
I just don't want to have to boot up Big Picture mode and load the save file every time before playing.

I only want to know if it's possible to configure a game in Steam to load a specific controller config, and how, because my game isn't loading them automatically.

I hope that clears up what my issue is.

Thank you.

In your library right click on the game select manage and then configure controller. This is on a per game basis.

If that doesn't load automatically you may also have to force the controller settings on which can only be done in big picture mode. In BP mode find your game and click then select manage and then controller options and choose force on.

Hope this helps.

I have tried all of that. Steam input per game is setting is forced on but every time I reboot my pc and launch the game it reverts back to some weird previously saved control config where both sticks look.

Starting to think I'll have to try finding and deleting the config files and try again .. hmm..

(Edit) Problem solved!
What I had to do was switch back to use global settings for xbox, then exit and restart the system. Then reboot into Steam, load my controller config, then go into Big Pic mode again and change it back to forced on and then reset again.
It now seems to be auto loading my control config ;)

Thanks for the help ;)
