They're not still there though. They're still available for purchase but they're literally just blank with the message "Emoticon art currently unavailable due to DMCA takedown notice submitted on behalf of Matt Furie.".
This is bullcrap, I've paid an excessive amount of money leveling up badges in order to get all the Pepe emotes. Matt Furie is an absolute sham of a human being, it's a frog that's been public domain for years. Shame on Valve for even complying to this absolute scumbag. What's next, are they going to remove the Doge and Pedobear emotes as well?
Well sorry, since 2005, Matt FGTurie hasn't give a single s*** about it being used and he only recently thought "Oh, I could make some money off of some publicity." and decided to DMCA strike Vaping Simulator and now Steam as a whole. If that isn't a scumbag move, I don't know what is. Why don't we just remove all these other frogs then?
Oh look, looks a bit like Pepe that does... Obviously Matt Furie owns the rights to every image of a frog ever so let's just move on and forget about it right?
Any of the emotes with "Pepe" in the title could easily be changed to frog and ones that didn't have it in the title should have never have been removed in the first place. If this is the case, why isn't the M4A4 | Howl completely removed? Because Valve actually put in some effort to fix the issue rather than just screw over customers such as myself.
1. Other people were making money with Pepe
2. The original creator has the legal and moral right to prevent that
3. Frankly, payimg for an emoticon thats NOT public domain NOR copyright of the game maker is dumb anyway
There's always one bellend that comes in and sticks up for the person that's obviously in the wrong. First of all, sue those people. Second, I've offered a viable solution and finally, I'll spend my money on what I want you absolute tosser.
Oh please, so you predicted they'd remove the actual images? Give me a break, they usually just remove the items from sale.
They're not going to bring the "lol funi meme" back. So that's that.
The culprit of these items is not the customer, it's the game creators that used the image of Pepe. If anything, the emoticons should be banned from being sold, making them no longer obtainable but still readily available for those that purchased them or had them in the first place.
The point of the argument is that I've spent money on these and have no longer got access to what I've paid for, which is highly illegal in my country.
