Steam Gems
So why is it whenever I convert my useless items into gems they all get thrown into seperate stacks? Like why? I have over 2,000 gems and cant put a single stack into a bag.... wtf

Any of the items have restrictions on them before gemming them? Those carry over.

Trade them and trade them back to sack them.

Then, yes. The restrictions carry over just like with the trading cards. After you purchase them and craft a badge, any dropped item has the restriction on trading and the market carry over to them. That is how they work, unfortunately.

I know what you are talking about. I have an alt account to trade them back and forth just because of this.

If the other gems do not have a trade restriction then of course if would matter.

Ok so wait for the restrictions to lift. Got it. SO after they lift, it should just be 2 stacks? yes?

Any trade restrictions carry over so they have to be kept apart from gems with no restrictions, or even gems with a trade restriction with a different time/date.

Even if you convert an item to gems, use the gems to create a booster, open the booster, craft a badge with the cards, then convert the background/emoticon to gems, that trade restriction follows everything the whole way through.

Unfortunately, they won't auto stack. What you'll need to do is find someone with an equal amount of gems and trade with them. After the trade, what you receive will be in one stack.

Fizzinator, they WON'T auto-stack or be combinable after the trade period ends. This is a bug well known to Steam that has been around possibly since gems started being available. Apparently the way to avoid this happening is to wait until the trade period ends before converting anything to gems.

Booster packs will have whatever trade restriction is latest on the gems used. However, unlike a Sack, packs will take gems from different piles, so it will at least reduce the clutter.
