What is a good program to Record Gameplay?
I have windows 10 but I can't get the xbox game dvr to record my gameplay. Keeps saying there is nothing to record and that I should keep playing. Anyways, what free program is out there that uses a very small amount of RAM and CPU to record gameplay? I don't really care about the quality of the recordings since I play Arma 3 on low graphics settings anyways but I need something that works well and doesn't break your computer. So something name brand and free is a must.... Thanks for the suggestions in advance. Peace.

Nevermind, but thanks anyways. I found a free recording utility in the steam store called xsplit. I trust a steam program over any other source for my steam games. I will give it a shot and if it doesn't work there is at least from what I saw more than 5 other programs that record and stream for free in the steam store.

How is Steam a reputable source when there is literally no quality control on who or what can release games or software on Steam?

You wont get banned, there are no viruses, it is compatible with windows 10, and its made for steam games. If I was to get a recording utility somewhere else I would risk getting viruses, the program might be corrupted, the program might not be compatible with windows 10, no updates for the program, and it could basicly not work and ruin my laptop.

Not true. Just because it's on Steam does not mean a paranoid anti-cheat tool couldn't get triggered. It won't trigger VAC though, but that is valid for pretty much every record software. Steam or not.

there are no viruses
That is true.

Not guaranteed, there are a lot of games that are not compatible with Windows 10 as they are rather old.

No, it's not. It works with them but it's not specially developed to work with Steam games. It's the same as the version you can download from the website of the developer.

I've enjoyed using the open-source Open Broadcasting Software for quite a few years (now known as OBS Studio). Has good performance (depending on your machine) and a nice set of features.

I'll stick with Xsplit. I can record videos in 240p all the way up to 1080p and it works good. I tested it. Had a 39 minute video of me playing Arma 3 and everything was smooth and it had an fps counter on the upper left hand corner of the screen. I must say the cons now because I am fair. There is a distracting symbol on the lower right hand corner of the screen that interferes with gameplay somewhat but Xsplit is an updated and maintained program that has a plethora of options and settings. I will stick with Xsplit. Plus, I read up on OBS Studio and its not even an updated program. Its an old program and its not new at all. Poven? Yes, but I will stick with Xsplit since it works like a charm and you can decide whether to have your graphics card take on the load of recording or your processor. So really I am satisfied and there is no use in trying to change my OPINION. Yes, an opinion. You guys have yours, and I have mine. Its America for petes sake.

Umm...what's up with your wacky defensive post? You're acting like OBS--a FREE program--is paying me a commission to recommend them, when in fact I'm trying to HELP you by suggesting an excellent alternative to whatever you're using now. In direct reply to the title of your post, BTW--"What is a good program to Record Gameplay?"

Why'd you waste everybody's time here asking for advice, if you don't want answers? Unless what YOU are really doing is trying to make some pocket change shilling for this "X split"...

Also, apart from being anti-social, you're also ill-informed and spreading misinformation--willfully it seems. Because even a cursory glance at their website or quick click in a search engine would demonstrate that OBS is modern, regularly updated (I downloaded an update just a few weeks ago, in fact), and boasts a very active and responsive user forum.

Sorry bro but I asked for suggestions before the idea popped up in my head to check the steam store for free software. No hate intended. :)
