What does it mean to sign in through Steam?
I always though signing in somewhere through Steam would be safe, but a few days ago I signed in through Steam on rocketleaguehub.com and my Account was hacked afterwards. I double checked the URL of the Login Site to be the real URL.

So my question here:
How could something like this happen?
What does it mean to "Login through Steam"?
What does the Website Owner get when I login through Steam?
What can he do with it?
Is logging in through Steam safe nowhere anymore?

Eh? Someone correct me if I am wrong, but signing in through Steam is signing in using the client. Not using some 3d party site.

I mean if you like connect the Steam Account to your Twitch Account. There you click on "Login through Steam" and it redirects you to the Steam Website where you then login to be again redirected to twitch

"Sign in through Steam" basically does this:

- the 3rd party website sends you to Steam
- Steam asks you to log in, or asks whether you want to use the account that you're currently logged in with
- if that checks out, Steam sends you back to the 3rd party website, along with a piece of paper that says something along the lines of "I, Steam, hereby confirm that the user on this browser knows how access the Steam account 374895672".

So, that's it. Just a confirmation that you are the owner of some Steam account. The 3rd party website gets no privileges or non-public information.

Unless you are inputting your steam login information directly on that site. At which point: you're letting scammers have your Steam account.
