New ssd added' Steam on old hhd, how to play games?
Had a look through some posts and it tells me to go through settings to change default location. When i log into Steam on my new C drive I don't get an option of settings. As my new ssd is my c drive and OS, do I have to install Steam Client on to C to access settings. Thank you.

If the HDD still has Windows and stuff still on it wipe it by removing all partitions from it via disk manager. You can simply copy over all games from D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common on the HDD to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common on the SSD.

If you want your Steam games to be installed on the HDD I recommend cpoy/pasting all games to the SSD and then wiping the entire HDD. Once the HDD is wiped create a new Steam game installation directory on the D:\ drive.

Thank you for responding so quickly. My steam data on the HDD takes up 86GB, what I was hoping not to do was move it to the new drive c at all. What I want is to be able to use a short cut on C to access games on D if that is possible. to do that I need to change path in settings. That's why I want to know if I have to download steam client to C to do so.
You can temporarily move it over and then nuke the HDD.

Simple create a new Steam installation directory to the location when all games are installed like the link I posted says.

Just start steam with the exe in its main folder.
No need to do anything.
