Connecting PS3 Controller to Laptop
I have an MSI GT789DXR, and I want to be able to use my Playstation 3 Dualshock Controller on my laptop. I do have a USB adapter for the controller. What all do I have to do to be able to use the controller? (I want to use my laptop to play Dark Souls 3)

The best option to play video games is the Xbox controller. But if you only have a PS3 Controller, it can work really great if you make the proper settings. Follow this guide: {LINK REMOVIDO}

Best choices for overall compatibility on PC (Windows 7 OS or later)

Xbox 360; Xbox One; Sony DS4; Razer X360 or XBO types;
Logitech F310 / F710; Steam Controller

Avoid generic brands.

If wireless, buy an official wireless adapter, not generic.

If it works through BlueTooth great, however do not expect all BT adapters / chipsets to work 100%. Example of this is when trying to use XBO or DS4 via BT

Logitech F710 and also Steam Controller ship with their own USB wireless dongle.
F310 / F710 are just as compatible as the official Xbox 360 types.

DS3 never really had any good compatibility on PC so I can't really help you with that issue directly.

New firmware for the Steam controller added some low power Bluetooth support which I guess help with compatibility with Android phones and laptops but for other usages Valve still recommends their own as it is designed for their purpose with a lower latency as result.

Honestly if you want a better BT controller; I'd look at grabbing up an NVIDIA Shield Controller. And yes it has a Windows OS Driver via the NVIDIA GPU packages; it's included in those by default. NVIDIA Shield Controllers work on Android and Windows x86/x64 OS' and has that Xbox360/One compatibility as well, with regards to how games see it.

The original Nvidia Shield Controller didn't used bluetooth but Wifi Direct and I don't know any device it's compatible with over that beyond Nvidias Shieldrelated stuff. And USB-cable of course.

The new one maybe use bluetooth. I have the previous one but it's pretty much garbage since Nvidia stuff is required. I also have a DS4 and a Steam controller. Wish I had kept the Xbox One controller instead of ordering other stuff to try.

The old one: https://shield.nvidia.com/support/shield-controller/faq/3
