Why can't we change our login usernames?

I believe we should be allowed to change our login names at least once per 6 months due to our first name being cringey when we first make our accounts when we're like 11....

its a log in name , not the name others can see anyway

Imagine the security implications of an account getting hijacked & renamed. That would be a nightmare! On the other hand, changing account names is useless as you (and maybe Steam support) are the only people wholl get to see it if you dont screw up.

True but at least let us change it once again or make us pay for name changes if they want money... they could just design a software to keep track of the name changes.

So the hijacker can rename your account when its hijacked? That software wouldnt really help either as people would have to use it first. Again, theres no gain as account names are private anyway.

This would be a difficult and unnecessary task. Paying to change a name is probably one of the least concerns. As ReBoot said, just think about all the security issues and databases that have to be edited. The biggest benefit of changing the login name is aesthetics, but the amount of downsides is too large.

True but would be even better if they use a name recycle system like Twitch so nobody can take your old name until it's recycled which could prevent hijackers jacking your account and also there's a thing called 2FA, how can you get hijacked if you have that, maybe some greedy csgo players going on those gambling sites but usually it's the owners fault...

I repeat; your login name should be known to you only and shouldn't be visible whatsoever in any form including that of a screenshot. It doesn't matter how cringey it is - nobody else should ever see it regardless.
