There was a problem with your steam installation. Please reinstall steam. Multiple fixes did not work
I've been unable to open steam for the past two months or so. Below is a list of all potential fixes I've tried, none of which have worked:

* Restarting my PC
* Reinstalling steam
* Hard drive error checking
* RAM error checking
* regedit
* system restore
* -clearbeta
* deleting everything except steam.exe and steamapps

Any ideas as to what else I can try? This is all I've been able to find online so far.

Open the Steam folder and, with Steam not running, delete everything in the folder except Steam.exe and SteamApps. Doubleclick that Steam.exe afterwards.

That's interesting—I don't seem to have the SteamApps file/folder. Any idea where I could pick that up?

It gets created by Steam when you download games. If it's not there, then you can't lose it anymore so you may just as well go on.

Hmmm, I tried that and it still doesn't work. Time for another addition to the list, heh. Thanks though

can you plase rename steam folder to steam.old, reinstall steam at same place as before.
this way you dont delete it and can move things over if that work, it's same place as Reboot mention.

problem is Steam and steam sub folder can content save games and icon files to all shortcut.
and also the new art per game.

and user own responsilities for not loosing own userdata..

#:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps ( installed games )
#:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam\games ( .ico ) ( icon's files to all desktop shortcut's )
#:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata ( save games ) depend on game devs use this place.

So lemme understand, when you doubleclick that Steam.exe, it gives you the message about Steam not being properly installed?

Yeah. It's been that way for a while now.

If there's absolutely nothing there except Steam.exe, this message kinda stops making sense.
Start your system in safe mode (with networking) and doubleclick that Steam.exe then.
