Card Drops
This is something I have always been confused about on Steam. Sometimes when I log off a game I get cards from said game, but now it rarely happens anymore. Is there something that determines if you get cards? The help page for it isn't any good since it just confused me more. If you can explain this then please do, I'm so confused X3.

You get a set number of drops per game. Usually 50%.
The default playtime is 2 hours before cards drop but devs set the drop timer.

The common way to get cards is buying a new game and then playing the game for some hours.
They usually give about 3 cards per game ( about 50% ). You can receive the same card and the others will be missing. So, you need to use the market to buy them to complete the collection of cards.
Some games can give you more cards.

For example: Counter Strike Global Offensive gives maximum 3 cards, but you can receive more! But you need to buy keys in the game.

People usually dont care about the cards, they just sell it.
In reais for example ( brazilian money ), each card costs about R$0.20 ~ R$0.40.
It is not a lot of money but better than nothing.

But it depends on you, if you like to have a collection or if you dont care about it and then just need money. So, you sell it.

There's no particular variable.

The developer sets the drop-time.

Once you've had all the card drops, you're then eligible for booster packs.

Booster packs are very rare and appear as the community crafts badges.

Some very cheap indie games have faster drop-times.

So you can't complete a collection without paying money..?

You'll either have to trade with another user or purchase the remaining cards from the community market.

Trading exists for this reason and waiting on booster packs can take a lot of time.

Once you've received all the card drops - you're then eligible for booster packs.

They rarely ever drop.

It can take weeks - it depends on if others in the community craft badges in that game.

I wouldn't count on booster packs, they're rare and the cards are random.
How can I get a booster pack?
Once you have received all of your card drops, you become eligible for a booster pack, which is a set of 3 trading cards that may include both basic and foil cards. Booster packs are granted randomly to eligible users as more badges are crafted by members of the community. Make sure you log in to Steam each week to maintain eligibility.

Once eligible, your Steam Level increases your rate of receiving a booster pack drop:
Level 10: +20% increase in your drop rate
Level 20: +40% increase in your drop rate
Level 30: +60% increase in your drop rate
Level 40: +80% increase in your drop rate
Level 50: +100% increase in your drop rate (i.e. the rate has doubled)
Etc.

How do I know if I can get card drops and booster packs?
From your Badges page, the “How do I earn card drops?” window shows you how many card drops you have earned, how to get more, and if you are currently eligible for a booster pack drop.

Some people never see boosters, so don’t count on it.

Extremely late, but, at a high level with a lot of games, I get boosters every week. (only 1 drops a week)
