steam.exe not found after download + installation (windows 7)

After Steam installation, client wont open quits with "steam.exe not found".

Here is what i did:
* I downloaded the install-exe of Steam from https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/SteamSetup.exe.

* ran it, installed Steam onto my local machine (tried different locations already)

* after installation was finished, starting Steam.exe resulted in the error "E:\\Steam\Steam.exe not found. Please make sure the path is correct and try again."

This means i cant see the login or something else. I cant repair or update.

My system:
* windows 7, SP 1 (latest updates installed)
* AV: windows defender, deactivated
* no programs running

Help much appreciated.

ps.: i contacted the support already, but would like to play my new game. So i hope one of you guys may have an idea.

I dont have any of these applications running or installed. I am wondering, why it can't found the exe, even if i click it directly in the folder. Using regedit, paths to the exe seemed right.

I think i got it! I ran AVG TuneUp which found errors in the registry. After fixing them, steam started and now its updating... lets see how far i come now :D Hell yeah!
