steam updating game (game installed on ssd) but my hdd is at 100% usage and is bottlenecking the update ??

the update was a tiny download, and everything has just been reading/writing files.

the game is installed on my ssd, and my boot drive is a separate ssd (steam is installed to that), so why is my hdd being used and bottlenecking the update?

Probably not enough space on your SSD to apply the update (can require up to the game size in temporary space).

Which drive in Steam is installed on, which drive did you make default for downloading on?

Did you confuse your drive size with your other drive? Double check your drive size for free space, and look at how big the update.

Steam downloads updates to the drive Steam is installed on in a temporary downloading folder. Use a symbolic link to have it go to your ssd.

steam is installed on my ssd boot drive, and the default downlaod drive is an ssd as well

Steam doesnt do that anymore. it downloads and applies patches in the library drive the game is in.

I just tested this. Steam is installed on C, I have libraries on C\D\E\F drives (yes its a lot)

I updated 2 games on F and 1 game on E

The "Download" folder showed up on their respective installed drives, not on the c:\

The only one you cant 'move' off the steam installation directory is the "Steamworks Redistributables" now
