to make sure that it is definitely disconnected, open the setting to add a new controller on your switch. then just use the 2 joy cons that came with your switch and complete the setup. to prevent that the pro controller couples with your switch afterwards, turn off your switch by holding the power button for a few seconds, going under "power option" and turning the console off.
now your controller should be decoupled from the switch console and if you connect it to your pc via USB it should recognize it.
I did find a solution, although an unexpected one. Figured I’d share it with anyone who might be having the same issue. I tried several fixes but the only thing that worked was downloading x360ce, the program read the controller immediately, causing Steam and even Windows to read it immediately afterwards. 😀 Catch me on Rocket League. ⚽️ 🚙
