Shortcuts not working
Hey guys
I was playing Overwatch today, and when I left the game all my Steam games shortcuts were blank (a white page looking icon)
And they don't work anymore, they turned into .url files, which the .exe path is wrong
I've tried to delete them and create them again via Steam, but it creates the same .url shortcut
The only way I can do it is creating a shortcut directly from the game folder, which is a pain the a$$ since I have tons of games
Can anybody help me with this matter please?
Thanks in advance

I am having the same issue as well. It started happening to me after a game crashed that I was playing on steam. Reinstalling Steam did not fix the issue either.

I just created a shortcut from the library to try this out. It put the shortcut on the desktop as expected, and displayed the proper icon.

I right clicked on the new shortcut to view properties. It's an internet shortcut rather than a shortcut linked to an .exe. The Web Documents tab shows this as URL... "steam://rungameid/251730"

When I closed the properties window, the icon turned black. It's now a black block with a shortcut arrow. Double clicking the shortcut still launches the game for me though.

I never tried using the "create shortcut" option by right clicking game prior to this. Have either of you used it before? I wonder how long this might have been going on for.

Steam started acting funny a couple of days ago so I closed it and relaunched it. When it was starting back up it did an update. It worked fine after that for awhille but Later that night or the next day, Steam acted up again, I restarted it and it did another update. It has worked fine since then.

Maybe an update broke something?

All my shortcuts I create are from the installation prompt and from doing so from my game library. Finding the .exe and creating a shortcut of that still works. But it is still inconvenient for me to do so since I have a lot of game shortcuts on my desktop.

Right click the game in your library and go to properties. Click on create a desktop shortcut.

That is what we were just talking about. It isn't working.

I think some update broke them
Because I didn't change anything on my system, it just happened out of nowhere

Compare the properties of the shortcuts you make from the installation prompt with the ones you make from the .exes and note the differences.

What's the difference between the shortcuts that work and the ones that don't.

All went blank today. All steam shortcuts on desktop just targets (gamename).url. Nothing else. Right click in steam makes an iconless shortcut targeting the same, (gamename).url

Started after an automatic win update about 22 hours ago. Only affected steam shortcuts.

I am guessing the Windows update may have done something to it. This issue started when I had updated Windows 10 the previous day.

Me too! halp! Im using Windows 10. The Long Dark crashed yesterday but I'm not sure that's when the desktop icons changed. I reinstalled steam and my games but it doesn't fix the icons.

I am currently having this exact same problem with mine. Any find a solution yet? Or do we have to wait for the next update?

Having the same problem here too since yesterday and it really seems to have something to do with the recent Win10-Update.
I haven't tried a rollback or to uninstall the update, but here's a temporal
WORKAROUND:

1) Go to [Installationdrive] \ [Steamfolder] \ steamapps \ common \ [Gameyouwant]
2) Locate the Game.exe (searching for ".exe" can help) and create a manual shortcut.

Not great, but better than opening the library all the time.:steamsad:
