Their very old for one thing and no longer is anythong for PS3 supported anyways.
For Controllers, look at:
Official Microsoft Xbox360 or XboxOne
Official Sony PS4 Controllers
Logitech
Razer
Steam Controller
Keep in mind what may be required for using Wireless, if you prefer that.
Ones like XBO or PS4, you can use them Wired via MicroUSB-to-USB Data-Sync Cable.
Wireless ones from Logitech or Steam Controller come with their own wireless dongle bundled with them already.
So very helpful... I have an Xbox One controller, and a Steam controller, the ps3 navigation controller is unique in that it's designed to be used in one hand, freeing up the other hand to operate the mouse.
Alright so I actually did get the ps3 navigation controller working properly. There are plenty of ways to get the standard ps3 controller working as it behaves more like a standard direct input device, but the nav is a little different. When you first plug the ps3 navigation controller in, microsoft will assign a useless driver to it, it will show up in Steam as the Navigation controller but you can't actually define the layout/the controller won't send any input to Steam.
You need a 3rd party driver like Fireshock to enable directinput on the navigation controller. Once Fireshock is installed you can define the layout in Steam and it will rename itself to "Generic Xinput Controller", ensure that you enable "Generic Controller Config Support" so you can configure the buttons in game.
For some reason the controller is cutting out for me using a wired usb connection. I think it is just a bad cable, I'm looking into a wireless/bluetooth solution and will update this thread with that info in the future. Hopefully this thread can at least be of use to someone in the future.
So it doesn't matter who wishes to support a device in their software; such as Steam Client, if no one is helping to make better OS device drivers, the device might as well be dead.
I was able to finally get mine working, wired, with a combination of Fireshock and Xpadder. I'd tried MotionInJoy, SCP DS3, Better DS3, for days. I can't tell you how many times I did a sys restore to undo all the program and driver installs just to be sure I wasn't missing anything. I picked the Nav controller up from GameStop, used for $2.99. I'll let you know how it does in Overwatch and Portal2. You may just have a bad controller. I'll repost later today or tomorrow with my results. All hope is not lost!
On a separate note, how do your charge that controller? I've owned two since 2011, but never used them until now. Their red LEDs blink when charging using any method (Sony's official charging station, third-party dock, connected to the PC via USB), but I can't get them to turn on after unplugging. Not sure what's going on.
Like you, I wish that more companies would invest in solutions like that. The Razer Hydra was the closest alternative, but not only it was discontinued, it was also wired. To make matters worse, it costs a fortune on eBay nowadays.
reWASD work with my wireless setup witch is: "PS3 NAV" + "Mayflash PS3003 Wireless PS3 Controller to USB Adapter" + reWASD
PS3 NAV will be seen as a xbox 360 controller in reWASD
Side note, I purchased 2 more of these controllers, used, from GameStop @ $3.99 each. You know, for science.
