Ps3 Navigation Controller?
Has anyone got the ps3 navigation controller working connected via usb? Steam doesn't recognize it as a controller, I've tried Fireshock (navigates steam but not recognized by Steam's controller configuration utility, nor by any games), scptoolkit (doesn't recognize the controller), Better DS3 (doesn't recognize the controller). Fireshock at least gets Directinput working, but steam doesn't seem to recognize it beyond navigating big picture, apparrently I can install something called Vigem alongside Fireshock to get xinput, but the dev is to lazy to package it as an end user installation package, so mere nondevs like me have no idea how to go about using Vigem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, the navigation controller has an extra button vs using half an Xbox One controller, it's quite an ingenius hardware design, too bad the software is so incomplete/finnicky.

PS3 Product have little to no support on Windows OS PC; its best to avoid all of those.
Their very old for one thing and no longer is anythong for PS3 supported anyways.

For Controllers, look at:

Official Microsoft Xbox360 or XboxOne

Official Sony PS4 Controllers

Logitech

Razer

Steam Controller

Keep in mind what may be required for using Wireless, if you prefer that.
Ones like XBO or PS4, you can use them Wired via MicroUSB-to-USB Data-Sync Cable.

Wireless ones from Logitech or Steam Controller come with their own wireless dongle bundled with them already.

So very helpful... I have an Xbox One controller, and a Steam controller, the ps3 navigation controller is unique in that it's designed to be used in one hand, freeing up the other hand to operate the mouse.

Alright so I actually did get the ps3 navigation controller working properly. There are plenty of ways to get the standard ps3 controller working as it behaves more like a standard direct input device, but the nav is a little different. When you first plug the ps3 navigation controller in, microsoft will assign a useless driver to it, it will show up in Steam as the Navigation controller but you can't actually define the layout/the controller won't send any input to Steam.

You need a 3rd party driver like Fireshock to enable directinput on the navigation controller. Once Fireshock is installed you can define the layout in Steam and it will rename itself to "Generic Xinput Controller", ensure that you enable "Generic Controller Config Support" so you can configure the buttons in game.

For some reason the controller is cutting out for me using a wired usb connection. I think it is just a bad cable, I'm looking into a wireless/bluetooth solution and will update this thread with that info in the future. Hopefully this thread can at least be of use to someone in the future.

Nevermind, cuts out randomly for no reason, not a cabling issue. I guess this great peripheral is just dead in the water due to lackluster driver support, I wonder if Valve could fix that and support the controller directly without the need for a 3rd party driver?
The Device still needs a good working Driver; regardless of other software support.
So it doesn't matter who wishes to support a device in their software; such as Steam Client, if no one is helping to make better OS device drivers, the device might as well be dead.

Hey Mik,
I was able to finally get mine working, wired, with a combination of Fireshock and Xpadder. I'd tried MotionInJoy, SCP DS3, Better DS3, for days. I can't tell you how many times I did a sys restore to undo all the program and driver installs just to be sure I wasn't missing anything. I picked the Nav controller up from GameStop, used for $2.99. I'll let you know how it does in Overwatch and Portal2. You may just have a bad controller. I'll repost later today or tomorrow with my results. All hope is not lost!
I played Overwatch for a few hours with no issues. One tweak I made was disabling the click action of the analog sick. I had mapped that to mele or and it was interrupting Mercy's guardian angel

I use the "Mayflash PS3003 Wireless PS3 Controller to USB Adapter" with my PC and it work perfectly with the Ps3 Navigation Controller. There's two modes on the adapter: Direct Input or XInput. I use Direct Input as I don't want games to recognise the stick and interfere with my controller mapping using "Pinnacle game profiler"
You'll need a combination of Fireshock (which I see you already have) to recognise the controller as dinput, and x360ce, which translates dinput to xinput. This will then make the PC see your controller as an xbox 360 controller. It's what I use for pc Overwatch, along with a Razer Naga Hex.

Would you guys mind sharing how you were able to get the Navigation Controller working on PC? I'm also interested in trying that same solution.

On a separate note, how do your charge that controller? I've owned two since 2011, but never used them until now. Their red LEDs blink when charging using any method (Sony's official charging station, third-party dock, connected to the PC via USB), but I can't get them to turn on after unplugging. Not sure what's going on.
You just need the program reWASD. Make sure you purchase Advance Mapping along with the basic program ($15 for both). Advance Mapping allows you to unmap the keys to the in-game controller so there is no conflict. I know it works with Destiny 2, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and Rocksteady Batman. Actually, I very confident it will work with any game! By the way, if you don't want to keep remapping for different games, also purchase +4 slots. It's another $9, but it is really worth it!

One issue has occurred with the controller. I need to unplug and re-plug the controller to get it to work when I start up my computer. Initially, I didn't have this problem. As a side note, why doesn't Sony still make these controllers or better yet a company like Logitech. Using a combination of navigation controller and mouse on a PC to play games is the best invention since slice bread!
Thanks for replying. I'd read about reWASD before, but, apparently, it only works if the controller is connected via USB (wired), is that correct?

Like you, I wish that more companies would invest in solutions like that. The Razer Hydra was the closest alternative, but not only it was discontinued, it was also wired. To make matters worse, it costs a fortune on eBay nowadays.

reWASD work with my wireless setup witch is: "PS3 NAV" + "Mayflash PS3003 Wireless PS3 Controller to USB Adapter" + reWASD

PS3 NAV will be seen as a xbox 360 controller in reWASD

Yes, my PS3 Nav is wired. I believe the reason reWASD sees the controller as a xbox 360 is due to Mayflash. That was happening to me too because I also installed Scp Toolkit. I emailed reWASD tech, and they replied by stating that Scp Toolkit wasn't necessary and could cause problems. There were no functional problems, but once I uninstalled Scp, reWASD recognized it as a PS3 Nav. I really wish PlayStation would start manufacturing this controller again or maybe Logitech manufactured something like it. New ones are hard to come by.

I too have this issue with needing to either restart the PC or unplug, replug. So to reduce wear on either the PC port or PS3 controller I purchased a Sabrent USB 3.0 hub that has individual switches for each port. This way it acts like I'm unplugging the cable. Considering I rarely restart and only sleep my PC it saves time and wear on the ports.
Side note, I purchased 2 more of these controllers, used, from GameStop @ $3.99 each. You know, for science.
