Steam family sharing isnt designed to be used on long distance imo.
But even so either redo the process or figure out if he had used his library at time that you did (you both arent allowed to use his library at same time).

You two should go to each other's houses then, and deauthorise and reauthorise each other for Steam Family Share. :happy_creep:

you should say the solution so if someone else has the problem and does a Search, they can see this and read your solution!

Honeslty its gonna be really hard to explain but ill try.

What I did was;
I went on one of my friends profiles who were playing rust
usually when someone is playing rust or any game like csgo or something like that there is a green text/button that says "join game" with the name of the game in green on the right side sorta middle of the persons profile page. I clicked that and it prompted me to something that says "This game belongs to ( my friend) somethign something, and there was a button that said requested access, and since im already authorized it said "we have discovered that you are already authorized on this account/pc have fun" Its something along those lines i really cant get it exact but if you've done family sharing before you should understand where im coming from

So in short terms you were lucky that the Request Access prompt still worked, which could've been initiated by executing any installed game from said shared library. (If none of such games are installed, perma-removal can be used for games you both own [so Steam fetches the entry from said library instead of yours; and that in turn can be used as an access request])

In the worst case scenario, it would've said the library owner has to authorize your device first; which would've meant re-authorize from scratch.

I'm surprised attempting an already installed game wasn't suggested in the first place though.
