Can you apprehend to the fact that the major profile elements are in the center while only the picture fills out the borders at the left and right of the wider screen?
Or did that person configure his/her monitor incorrectly aswell?

it is a design choice. if the profiles were to fill the screen, where would the backgrounds be seen?
Still with big picture steam is optimized to use on TV screens but the default monitor modus is still that..oldschool limited..
At least an option somewhere to rearrange the profile pieces around over the screen could be nice, even though not every background picture supports it, but that could change if the full widescreen modus gets implemented.
