[SOLVED] Would like to play on the TV in another room
EDIT: SOLVED

Got a powerful PC in my study, but I just bought a 4k TV I would like to use as a monitor (different room). I just confirmed that the controller (x360) sends the signal perfectly, so the only issue now is the audio/video. How can I do this without spending money?

If it helps, it's a Samsung UHD TV, so maybe there's a screencast app I can install?

I also have a 2013 Mac Mini I could use, but it's unclear for me the whole Steam streaming. Would it run my PC's library on the mac, duplicate the video (locking both machines), or what?

Or is there another option, that is not the Steam Link (heard only bad things about it)?

Many thanks!

Run a cable man...seriously. Any homeowner can fish a cable between joists, and drill a hole in the top plate, run the cable then drop it down again...it's not hard. Just do it before summer or you'll be cursing me.

You're gonna give yourself an aneurysm with all these fancy ideas.

TV is on east wall. Studio is west of the living room, west wall. Not going to move furniture

You didn't even read my post, did you? :(

Yes I did. Doesn't negate the fact you are going to need hardware to accomplish your objective.

Either way you need to spend money I think, because what you are looking for is something physical that will cost you nothing... because there is nothing you can download to help you i think... sorry :P

Provided your Mac meets the minimum requirements, use In-Home Streaming.

Run and broadcast on PC, decode and output the signal on Mac. It's unlikely either device will be capable of multi-tasking, unless the game is not demanding or you have a really good PC.

Why do you completely disregard any possibility of using the Steam Link? Just hook up the Steam Link via ethernet cable and that way it's not running off of WiFi, which is less reliable

Because everyone complains about how unrealiable it is, and how much of a pain Valve support is. That is why.

What % of those are with WiFi and those with ethernet? Ethernet provides a more stable connection and faster speeds that you'll use to stream to your TV.

WiFi has the drawbacks of signal loss, potential obstructions in the way like concrete, steel, or drywall that will weaken the signal and make your game more choppy on Steam Link.

Have you ever used one? Reviews are one thing, but acutally trying something is a whole other thing.

Yes and my question to you was:

Fact of the matter is, the Steam Link is the best option available to you as what you want is exactly what it is designed to accomplish. And I don't see the necessity of having your solution be entirely wireless.

Your TV is hooked up to power and a video source, which uses a cable. Your router is hooked up via a cable to power, and same with your computer. One ethernet cable running from your router to your Steam Link is not going to have any negative impact unless of course it's a pride thing to "be entirely wireless"

Solved. One word: Miracast

It's good that you were able to get it working.

Have you by chance checked out the support article related to Miracast?

Get your devices ready

If your PC came with Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 and your wireless display supports Miracast, you’re ready to add the wireless display to your PC to complete the connection, and start projecting.

However, if you upgraded your PC from an older version of Windows, you'll need to make sure your PC supports Miracast and is ready to project. Also, if the display you'll project to doesn’t support Miracast, you’ll need to set up the display by adding an extra piece of hardware to it before you can start projecting.
