Steam, and Windows 10S
Is there any word on what will happen to Steam users on Windows 10S?

I heard Windows 10S requires all apps/games be bought through the Microsoft store. Since almost all home computers come with Home versions-

Is Valve just doubling down on SteamOS, is it all quiet, or what's up?

Windows 10 S is basically a students version of Windows, so this is pretty much a non-issue. If these restrictions ever found there way into Home/Pro versions of Windows then that is when there will be concern. Windows 10 S will flop hard anyway - just make sure you don't buy a device with it preinstalled, unless you are happy to pay $50 to unlock the restriction.

It sounds like a wait and see response. I wanted to buy a new computer, and wasn't sure if I had to learn how to use it.

Windows 10S will be for low-end machines or school PCs. It's mean to compete with ChromeOS in the market of education etc. It will be like the "starter" edition of W10.

So in a year or two 99% of steam users will be complaining tf2 is broken because they cant play tf2 maxed out on their brand new intel atom pc with "its running win10s" as their reasoning it should

Unless Valve sell TF2 in the Windows Store, that's not something you have to worry about.

Upgrade 10S to 10 Pro, that's the way.

Windows 10Home isn't Windows 10S. Normal home pc's will still ship with Home as they do now. Some will have Pro and most companies will have Pro or Enterprise.

Like they did with the 8.1 Bing bootstrap? I guess we can just speculate until it comes out.

Don't speculate, its already out. Windows 10S is a Pro version only able to run store apps. Don't expect OEMs to deliver it as well

It's on their Surface laptops. Since they can't install non windows store games on it, and this isn't a 1:3 people has 10s, this is a closed issue as far as I'm concerned.

The Surface laptop can be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro.

The lockout worry was the issue, like an Apple mobile device. Wasn't that why Steam went in on Ubuntu?
At this point. It's dead. idc unsub

You still don't understand: 10S can be upgraded to 10 Pro, that's not like Apples iStuff at all!

It's on their Surfaces, but MS themselves say that it isn't for your 'average computer kid wanting to play Doom'.

“By putting Windows 10 S on [the Surface Laptop],” says Mehdi, “we think we’re creating a new category of device. I think it works for education, but it does work for other options. I think if you’re running a small business and you don’t have a lot of time to do IT support and you have a bunch of workers who need to design, but I don’t need them to be surfing all over the web.

For those who still don't know / understand what Windows 10 S is.

Sorry for reopening old thread. But Steam mode for Window S mode makes no sense. What makes more sense is Steam streaming app, much like there is for mobile devices, so one would be able to stream games from their PC to Windows S mode device.
