Help! New to Steam and PC gaming
Hi all, I'm "new" to PC gaming. By that I mean that this is my first downloaded PC game, every one before this was on a cd, so I've got a lot to learn.

My issue is this. I click "Play" on my only downloaded game (Skyrim), then the main screen of the game opens and you have the options of Play, etc etc. I click play on the main game screen, and the game acts like it's gonna open, then after a few seconds it closes out.

Is there special settings that I need to turn on/off of my PC? Or maybe something else? Windows 10 computer if that affects anything.

Thanks all :)

It will run on the former ( albeit at low settings) but not on the latter.

Either set the Radeon 7400m as your primary GPU in the BIOS or set your power settings in Windows 10 to "max power" all the time. Then the system should switch to the 7400m by default when gaming.

Also, if you try to play without having the laptop plugged in the system automatically switched to battery saving mode and will use the integrated Intel HD 3000 chipset.

Well, what are the other specs of your computer?
CPU, RAM, graphic card and so on.
If you dont know, in the Steam client at the top under "Help" there is a point "System Information".
That scans your system for your build in hardware and gives you the option to copy that information to clipboard so you can post it here.

Do that, then we can better see what the problem is.

Also, are you trying to play the original Skyrim or the Skyrim Special Edition?

You need to list your PC specs, as in the components. Are you sure you meet the requirements for the game?

You may need to update your graphics drivers.

Sounds like a GPU driver issue.

Your laptop is below the minimum requirements for Skyrim special edition, you can't run the game on that. Your GPU is far below it. Processor is questionable too.

Actually it seems the Radeon 7400m he has is enough for Skyrim Special Edition.
He only plays in 720p and there are a lot of videos on Youtube with people playing with that Radeon in 720p with around 50-60 FPS.
At low graphic settings of course.

but yeah, the system overall is pretty weak. He would be better off playing the original Skyrim with these specs.

Forgot about the 720p, yeah.
Rule of thumb, if you dont need a laptop and you want to play games,
your best choice for the money is a computer.

Read about the refund in steam, less than 2 hours play time (or running in background), less than 2 weeks after purchse. In case you dont get it to run.

You can ask before buying games if they will run.

And ask about what computer is good for what you want to do with it. Dont ask sellers ......

thanks for the help yinz. I've requested a refund so that I can get regular Skyrim instead, that way it is easier on my laptop. :)

Regular Skyrim is unlisted on the store so you cant find it anymore with the search function but you still can buy it with a direct link to the store page:
