Can't change the Default Installation Directory
So My relatively smallish SSD (C:) is getting full, so I go to STEAM -> SETTINGS -> DOWNLOADS-> STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS.

I add a folder, E:\STEAMGAMES and then select it to be my default folder.

However, when installing games, it ignores this E drive and continues to install on the C drive, which is full, and I need to free up space to run the OS.

(It says "yes" under the default column for the E drive).

Am I missing something?

You should get an option to choose download directory when installing a game. Have you made sure it has E drive selected?

1) What games in particular are you looking to install? Some games *need* to be in the original location (a subdirectory off the Steam client's root).

2) You can select the drive on a per-install basis, are you paying attention to the install dialog which comes up during installation? Because even if you have a secondary drive as "default", sometimes a new installation will have auto-selected the *last* location used.

Thank you for the replies:

@Lommemannen - I haven't seen a choice when downloading a game, I just remember clicking "install" I'll try again and pay a bit more attention

@RGX12 currently the offender is Middle Earth: Shadows of Mordor.
