in-home streaming limit bandwith (host) and required download speed for (client) ?
as the title says which is the best option for "limit bandwith" for the host to stream to secondary machine at 720p? and how much Mbps is needed to the other computer (client) to handle the stream data smoothly?

~4.5 Mbps for 720p

really? that seems low :o

what about limit bandwith from client ? automatic? unlimited? fast/ balanced or beautiful on client settings? btw i've currently 100/100 op fiber at home and likely going for more soon if needed.but my many worry is to know how much i need when out with my laptop, by which using hamachi to "workaround" the requirement of being on the same network...

Why not automatic?
If you have problems then start at the lowest and try and see if it lags and if it's fine then raise it until it's not fine.

Keep in mind that hamachi might work bad regardless of bandwidth since you can have the broadest broadband and still have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ping.

the bandwith limit is set to automatic. At home even with laptop wired and wireless it worked very smoothly and good quallity.

true vpn can be wildcard regarding ping, but i don't play many online games where ping has a major bad influence. but regardless of that i hope i can get an download speed "window" to know if will be worthed to carry the laptop with me or not and not just being a portable potato.

I'm talking about the ping between the client and the host, the ping between you the client pressing a button, sending that press to the host and the host sending the video of what happened back the client.
Unless you are playing card games or turn based slow paced stuff it might be bad.
This ping affects you in singleplayer and online games, online games are also affected by the ping the host gets.

I only do in home streaming with the steam link but that shows an overlay with video latency, input latency and more. There is a checkbox for that in the normal Steam.

I would bring my laptop somewhere outside your network and test this if I where you.
Set the bandwidth limit to whatever internet speed you get from the connection the client use where you are if automatic works poorly or go from the lower speed.

i haven't tested outside my network but if the performance stats option is working right, at home this displays1ms to 3ms max (peak moments).
