Not enough Vram
I have a friend who wants to buy borderlands 2. He did a scan of his computer and the only problem is that his graphic card only has 128mb of vram and he needs 256mb. I was wondering if he would still be able to run the game well, knowing that he has 8gb of ram and that borderlands 2 only needs 2gb.
Thanks

System memory will not compensate for insufficient video memory. He needs to upgrade.

+ a 128MB GPu isnt really a GPU at least not if you talk for gaming... But in the end this is just one point he doesnt fullfill but the rest matter too (the whole PC) Those scanning programms are poorly to really know if a system can run it or not.
Yes he will need to upgrade :o

and how do you know it? just because 128MB is elss then 256MB?

Often games still run and second he might could have a good iGPU that could handle this game too. You dont believe how often you see PC's that have a better iGPU then dedicated GPU espacially on such low end office pc's.

Without knowing the entire specs there is no way to tell.

He has an Intel core i5-5200U 2.20Ghz, 8gb of ram and the graphic card is an Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500

Also, his graphics drivers are outdated, will it change something if he uprgrades them ?

No. That system does barely meet the requirements and Intel videochips are able to dynamically allocate RAM for its needs. It doesn't have it's own RAM, so it steals some system RAM to work. Which is inefficient and slow compared to real VRAM.

It should run Borderlands 2, but it won't be fast, or pretty.

Okay thanks

I just checked the specs you left at Tom's Hardware. I value their knowledge. Intel HD graphics are weak. Even if you you could configure Ram in dual channel, the processor just won't handle. it. 2.2Ghz just isn't fast enough for the kind of game like Borderlands 2. You want a discrete graphics card, something in the range of nVidia 800 series. Keep that laptop for school assignments and look for something else.

For Borderlands 2 that would be quite overkill. It's not that demanding.
