How do you make a non-steam game appear as a steam game?
I think it has something to do with a dll called "steam_api" which may or may not have numbers in it.

I want to get the dll to the game The Elder Scrolls Online so that it has the feeling of me actually owning it on Steam.. cause I REALLY like having the little side bar that shows "Discussions, Store Page, etc." and having the little list of updates on the game at the bottom. You guys know what I mean.

Unless it's simply not possible or it's illegal(?) then.. nevermind.

Edit:
It seems the SteamAPI ID is required for the game. I'm learning how to do it myself apparently.. I'll figure it out if it's actually possible or not by myself then.

Have you ever tried?

You don't own the game on Steam, so you're not eligible to get access to those features.
Trying to trick Steam into thinking you own a game on Steam to get access to the features is comparable to software piracy.
Do not attempt if you want to keep your Steam account.

But technically, I can already access those things.. I most just want the convenience of that shortcut so how could it be piracy if it's open to the public?

Because you do not own a Steam license. Which is different from the license you have.
You have no obligation, right or eligibility to gain access to those features.
You've paid nothing, so you get nothing. Easy as that.

Hey man, did you ever figure this out? Here's what I did; it's the closest I could get to making it work.

Find the AppID of the app you're trying to download. This can be easily done by going on SteamDB and searching for it.

Go to steam/steam/SteamApps or wherever your main SteamApps folder is.

Create and open a new file called "appmanifest_APPID.acf", replace APPID with the actual AppID you found in Step 1.

Copy and paste the following and replace APPID (the all-caps one) with the one you found in Step 1 and APPNAME with the folder name to download to:
"AppState"
{
"AppID" "APPID"
"Universe" "1"
"installdir" "APPNAME"
"StateFlags" "1026"
}

Save and restart Steam.

I do this by creating a .txt file then filling it out as explained then titling it appmanifest_######.acf where ###### is the ID of the game. Save that and BOOM, it recognizes the game but in my case it doesn't see it as purchased but it lets you get some of those features you wanted.

Although what it says is true for those who actually pirate their games, it is still factual that those community/discussion pages you can access on the library page on any game are already accessible for anyone in general on Steam with or without owning the game. You just have to take the one extra step to access the pages and that's just searching for the game on the community tab.

I'm also not even "tricking" Steam into thinking I own the game as shown by

If that were true, posting on discussion boards would show the icon that indicates I own the game.. but I never cared enough to actually go through with anything for those "features" everyone has access to with or without owning the game because, surprise, they're public. Piracy is stupid. People deserve to be punished for it. Although I'm wrong, I like to type things out of spite. Thanks for letting me waste your time. I hope you're Cathulhu. It'd be nice if this discussion got locked.

Correlation between the user who necro'd the thread, his question and the fact that Spacewar appears on his profile right before leads to the statement.

Nothing about YOU at all since I did NOT quote you to show I am replying to you, correct?

Chill.

Like I said, I typed things out of spite. Your loss of brain cells from my lengthy waste of time is intentional.. but I like to think you noticed that although I'm quoting you, I'm mostly speaking to Cathulhu.

Also, wow. The Spacewar thing is a little shocking. I thought Steam would be more... I don't know, strict?
