Latest Steam update breaks packages in Linux Mint
Found a bug, and took me a while to figure it out. VLC stopped working, and when I attempted to reinstall it, got an error message that it wouldn't install because I held broken packages. I finally traced this down to the latest Steam upgrade's removal of libgles-mesa. To fix this problem, do NOT use sudo apt-get install vlc, as this will not fix the broken dependencies, and you will still get the error message that you have held broken packages. Instead, use sudo aptitude install vlc, which will present you with several solutions. The first is to not install vlc. type n for that one. The second solution will be to downgrade packages. Type y for that solution, and VLC will properly install. However, next time you run Steam it will break the packages again, and you will once again have to reinstall VLC using the same method I outlined earlier. This is a pain in the butt, having to go back and forth like this, so I hope Steam can fix this bug, the sooner the better. LOL.

Have you posted in the Steam for Linux forum?
I'm using Linux/Steam/VLC and I don't seem to be having this issue. Are you sure its Steam causing this issue?
