Suspicious comment in one of my screenshots.
Okay, so a few months ago I got a comment in one screenshot that I uploaded from Gmod, the comment was from a complete stranger that had no friends in common with me, he was asking me to add him on steam to "tell me something very important". My first action was to block the guy and delete his comment as it looked like an obvious scam attempt.

Fast forward today, this is the second time I get this comment, on the same Gmod screenshot, on a different account it seems, but the message it's exactly the same.
Here's a screenshot of the comment: https://imgur.com/a/1bzIrcW

Now, at this point I'm sure these are some sort bot accounts or something to scam people, my question is, have you guys seen these comments before with other users? The fact that they are commenting on the same Gmod screenshot worries me that they'll just keep coming.
What exactly should I do about it? Thanks in advance for reading.

Have seen similar worded comments in the past few years. Some were scammers others were indeed too embarrassed to ask me something in the comments. Usually related to the mods I use and the fear to "out" themselves as newbies.

Do whatever you like.
  • Delete their comment and block them.
  • Respond to them and state why you don't accept them. "Scammers" aren't stupid, they won't waste hours with a user who isn't gullible.
  • Accept them and see what they have to say. Maybe they are decent and really wanna talk with you about it. Won't hurt. The worst case is that they are indeed scammers - but even then your account isn't in danger so you can report them and move on.

It could be but there is no problem rn, if you want you can add him, then you can see what he wants to tell you, just be a bit careful

If you have items visible in your inventory that might be juicy bits for scammers to steal, it's a scammer.

There's no compelling reason to enjoin someone who won't just come out and say something on your profile.

I would put money on it being "I accidentally reported you" which is a scam.

No real person is doing that. But someone who plays a role.

Thanks for the advice guys, I personally won't take any chances so I'll block them and delete their comments, better safe than sorry.

Yeah. Id say just block them. If it was something important I wouldn't understand why they dont add you as a friend and leaving a comment on the main profile instead of getting you to add them instead. Gotten 2 of these comments so far
"Hello there, add me i have to tell you something very important hope you will noticed this comment, TRADE IS NOT INVOLVED HERE!"

When you add one of them, they will tell you they got scammed by someone with the same profile picture as you or something along those lines... They then proceed to tell you they were mad and mass reported you before realizing the mistake they made. According to the scammer the only way to prevent getting your account suspended is to cooperate with some steam admin on discord.... As if a "steam admin" cant get in touch with me over steam...

I was added yesterday by some random account who had something important to tell me. Then told me about this bs "accident report" that has been around here for +1 year.

They are a scammer. We've seen that exact copy-pasted comment on SO MANY scammed user accounts recently. Report, block/ignore, and move on.

Duh, but are these bots targeting people in the forums a lot more efficiently? I have never been contacted by scammers during my time on Steam before.

"So I acidentaly reparted your profile brother! please contat this stream admin profilE!" - likely the important thing this person needs to tell you.
