Help! Friends Network Unreachable :(
Hi all, first off I want to apologize that this will be a lengthy post of me attempting to explain my current situation. I'm no tech whiz so I'll try my best.

Destiny 2 is my current go to game (1.5 years now) and to those that are familiar with it, I've never been able to play a single crucible or gambit match (basically online PVP) without disconnecting. I used a WiFi connection before and upon suggestions from friends, got a 10m Cat 6 ethernet cable to connect the WiFi router to my CPU.

Now this was a double edged sword, I was really happy I could play my first crucible/gambit PVP matches properly as there were no more disconnects, but I don't know if it was coincidence or not, the day I got the cable was the day Steam started giving me problems.

The friends network would be unreachable and I would not be able to play Destiny 2. The game would launch and say network connection error (basically assuming I'm offline). This was the same for Borderlands and GTAV and I presume all games that require an online connection.

Some symptoms:
Upon starting my PC and immediately launching Steam, there usually won't be any issues and I would be able to log in just fine. But if I doodle around on YouTube or Facebook etc and then 15mins later or 2 hours later (any random set of duration) launch Steam, BAM! Friends network unreachable. The store page would display an 'ERROR CODE: -118'. Restarting Steam never works. The only workaround this is to restart my computer. Sometimes it works after 1 restart, sometimes I may need up to 5 PC restarts.

If I do manage to successfully log into Steam and launch Destiny 2 or any other game, I could be playing anywhere from 10 minutes to 4 hours before Steam disconnects and the game will bring me to the homescreen thinking I'm 'offline'.

I've scoured the internet hoping to find discussion pages, reddit posts, articles, YouTube videos on ways of fixing this but to no avail. Most of them are 2 to 15 years old so they are most likely outdated. The only method that works is a complete PC restart and even so its temporary. I would also like to state that with the ethernet cable, the connection is solid; heck I'm typing this out while listening to music on YouTube and Googling stuff but Steam, for some reason is 'offline'.
Also, I've never encountered this problem with a WiFi connection back then albeit I couldn't play online matches without disconnecting.

Methods I've tried but didn't work:
1. Tried adding -nofriendsui -nochatui and -steamos and -no-browser to Steam shortcut properties under Target.

2. Deleted web browser cache and all browser cookies from Steam settings.

3. Opted out of all Beta participation.

4. Reinstalled Steam (the way you do it by deleting all relevant folders minus steamapps because I didn't want to reinstall all my games again.

5. Unplugged my router and replugged it 10mins later.

6. Obtain DNS Server address automatically (mine was never manual).

7. Changed my Steam password.

8. Made sure Steam and Destiny 2 and my other games are allowed through Windows Firewall.

9. Deleted Steam cache in AppData > Local.

10. One more method from YouTube where I had to reboot Steam via some command prompt functions.

There could be some other methods I have tried but forgotten as this problem has persisted for almost 2 months now. It is extremely frustrating and annoying and I really hope someone is able to help me here. If you made it this far, I am very grateful and thank you for your time.

If you require any more info, please let me know and I will try my best to answer you.

Thank you.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you, but you are spot on with the amount of people who are having the same problem. I went through a ♥♥♥♥ load of post and suggestions of users with the same problem and trying the suggestions to no avail was driving me insane!!! clearly something is clashing with steam, the fact that restarting the machine might make it work is odd as f**k

I would perhaps suggest you disable background processes 1 at a time while closing steam and restarting it to see if u can identify anything causing the issue - apologies if u have already tried this!!

All good man. I was feeling hopeful cause when I checked my timezone settings, one was auto and one was manual so I was like yes! This was the issue after all! Switched to auto and it seemed fine for a bit but then disconnected after a couple of hours sigh.

Yea, the background processes method was the only one I didn't try as it's gonna be tedious as hell. But I might have to resort to that. Indeed, just really weird that a restart fixes it temporarily. And I don't even know how/why this issue started out of the blue when I got an ethernet cable as I never had this problem with WiFi.

I'm having the same problem after I installed windows 7 again. My internet connection is good and steam servers are ok. I tried to log in in my mom's notbook and there it worked normally. Tried aaaall of those solutions but none of them work, it must be something in my pc that it's messing things up but I can't seem to find what it is. I'm leaving this comment here with the hope that someone comes with another solution, since steam support don't bother to help me at all.

One thing I noticed that you never mentioned was if the network connection was set to public or private if it is set to public firewall is strict so you will have more things blocked. ensure your WiFi is turned off and it might be trying to connect to both. After that run cmd as admin and run this command and restart "netsh int ip reset"

To everyone who has commented on this thread since I started it, thank you. I ended up not gaming for almost a year (just busy with life and all that) and also because I was so fed up when nothing worked. So I built a new pc and started fresh, not sure if you can consider that a fix haha. But other than that, you might wanna consider a pc reformat if all else fails. All the best peeps!

im sorry but all post from before 1 oct is seen as necro thread win7 user own problem and issue with sll certificate. sense steam cant Brand mark you as what OS are , we do it now as helper with user, and its your problem fix your own system. win7 is a none supported system and thats your problem.

win8 and win10 user did not had a issue then 1 oct happend and thats why we know.

you can say that date is a huge split issue on same topic with current issue.
