Solved: Can't Preallocate Titanfall 2 / Other Steam Games
Prior to a clean install of Windows 10 I would get multiple BSOD while game preallocation took place. It would eventually finish. After the clean install of Windows 10 the preallocation does not cause a BSOD, but it's repeatedly pausing after I click "Resume" over and over again. What could it be, I did a SSD check and it came back at 100% health. I don't get it.

Let's get the obvious question out, do you actually have enough free space?
Dr.Shadowds 🐉 Jun 24, 2020 @ 4:21pm
The 1st part tells me something wrong with your end.
The 2nd part tells me either you don't have enough space, or something going on that stopping it from preallocating.

What did you use to check your ssd health?

- Ensure you have enough space in the 1st place, as the game will download, and unpacks.

- Ensure you're not using some kind of 3rd party software that manage your system file/folder permissions, or alter, modify, or quarantine your files. 3rd party software that interact with other apps, may interfere causing them not to function correctly.

- Ensure Steam client not mess up. You can review your past post.

Sure, I have a typical Samsung EVO 500gb. On a fresh install of Windows 10 and currently downloading Titanfall 2 I have 372GB free.

I disabled Windows Defender as always upon finishing a clean install. Are there any other virus programs or permissions by default I could be missing that is tripping up this preallocate/download/installation process?

The other post I created led to some very helpful replies. The action I chose was to reinstall Windows 10 simply because it's been a number of years since I've done so, better time than ever.

Whatever made you think this was a good idea is wrong. Turn it back on. If there's one thing that Microsoft is doing right it is Defender.

rawWwRrr, you're correct. But I rely on internet smarts opposed to antivirus. Sure its risky, but it is what it is. But it wouldn't hurt to enable Windows Defender. I'd just hate to find out it's scanning files in the background, and scanning the SSD even without being told to.

I guess what I'm hoping for is someone sees this post and goes "Hey, I've had the same issue as this person and I know what the fix is. I'll share it." Opposed to a list of 10 possible things to do :) :)

I did realize I forgot to install any of the motherboard drivers. I don't even have audio on here right now. Who knows, maybe one of the 20 installs I'll have will be the solution.

Just got my first BSOD while downloading/installing. It's gotta be the SSD despite it coming out healthy according to CrystalDisk. "Critical Process Died"

Try this video out. To open CMD quick, just press windows key + R then type "cmd" without quote, then click ok.

What's funny is after Windows Defender is turned off for a period of time Windows will automatically turn it back on. By then I'll forget about it, and it will stay on.

I think Titanfall just launches origin so like do you have Origin installed?

locate that game folder game in steamapp , last time i had a specific game that did that i wipe folder and all content in that game folder. restart steam and dl.
that fix my problem, cant say if that was the solution or steam verification procedur.

ps.
this can happend then multi click on many games dL and preallocation switch to newly add dl at CUE
( but same time stop old dl and preallcations ongoing, i reclick game again and it just reenable from current ongoing prelocations, this was not possbile a few patch ago, task was locked until done, so not sure whats going on if you have a corrupted pre-allocation. )
i just did in my way and never even thought about it, other then my faulth for mass DL and install adding to CUE.

we need other steam user expert confirmation on this, that procedur has change.
and you can still only have 1 window open with it, but task seem to switch to new cued added and skip old ongoing. ( not sure whats the point not lock it anymore or wait to next required preallocation window )

Iceira, thank you. This is something to look into. Less than an hour ago I was playing Titanfall 2 fine. I'm quite unhappy to say now when I start the game it's crashing during the load screen for the single player campaign, every time. Even if I click the mission and restart from the beginning. What in the world could have happened between now and hour ago that the game will not load without crashing.

Don't forget to "Clear download cache" when you have the pre-allocation hanging.
Iceira Jun 26, 2020 @ 12:43am
well its your thread OP, imo you might want to start new thread , a running game with issue is a total diffrent issue. ( and you need to update all drivers and BIOS if never done so )
even check why app crash windows has log and i think that game also make such.
and you might want TO contact Origin(EA) also, but if you know how that is over there well
you need Dxdiag, but you might understand the helpers here, with no pc spec , and error msg from app then it end here. ( and yet we are not support ) so you need alot of skill to fix such and patient, and summersale dont make it better, and help and tips is flooding with event issue.
