Why Endless loop "WORKING" trying to remap game controls

Looking for explicit help getting Alien Isolation to work on a Windows 10 PC using a PS4 controller.

I went into Big Picture mode on Steam, checked that the controller is being recognized.
Went to the library, found the game, clicked manage, Controller Configuration.
Then remapped some of the keyboard commands to buttons on the PS4.

Some I couldn't find a way to input.
For example, I do not want to use the toggle sticks for movement. yet there seems no way to remap them to anything else.

When I finished what remapping I could do, I tried to Save the configuration.
There are two options given: "Save new personal binding" and "Save new local-only binding file."
Both fail, resulting in a perpetual loop showing the word "working" and three blue moving lines. After many hours, this never goes away, no matter what option is chosen.

Is there some kind of thing you have to do at game launch to notify the game
to use your personalized controller configuration?

I do see some optional layouts, such as default, default left hand, etc.
But none of these within the game itself appear to be configurable.

I have also tried the third-party software DS4Windows. That fails the same way.
Send a tech support request to Sega months ago, they never replied.

Cleared cache on Steam, rebooted computer, uninstalled DS4, nothing helps.
The game is locked, can't modify the controls. WTF?

Don't take the retour you're taking. Simply enable general PS gamepad support (or rather leave it enabled, it is by default), turn off the per-game setting entirely and run the game. That'll should surface your gamepad as XInput and the game will pick it up.

You're TOTALLY overengineering this thing. The overall possible complexity is overwhelming, really high complexity ceiling. You can do heaps-a-lot with it, like fine-aiming using the gyroscope. But this shizzle is really complex to get into so keep it simple if you can.
