PC won't recognize PS4 controller
For whatever reason, I can't seem to get my Dual Shock 4 controller to pair up with my PC when plugged in. I simply get a single yellow light that fades. I've restarted my PC a few times to see if that works, no luck there. I've tried to enable it in my devices but nothing seems to change.

I had an issue not long ago when I couldn't get Owlboy to read my controller despite other games being able to, and making a change that I for the life of me can't remember what I did. Up until my most recent Windows update it was functioning, now it's not, and I have no idea now how to fix it. Please help.

all it does when I plug it in is play the little jingle that tells me something plugged into the PC. but I can't get it to be recognized as a controller.

Try using your controller in steam big picture mode

Nothing, Neither Input mapper or DS4 windows even recognizes the controller. Usually when I would plug it in, the sysstem would chime and give me a message that the controller was functioning. Now nothing.

I know the controller still works, I can still use it on my PS4.
The cable functions as well when I tried my late brother's Xbox One controller on it.

I know what you're thinking now "why not use that instead"
1) I prefer the feel of the PS4 controller.
2) when he would use it he would mash the buttons harder then needed so now half the buttons don't press right.
I don't want to go out and buy another 50 dollar controller, for what could be a free fix if I could just find a solution.

By the power of greyskull I finally did it. Had to go through Devices and printers again, and forced it to uninstall both HID controller and USB controller. Then when I plugged in again the drivers were found. Now my controller functions once more.

Glad to see you didn’t use the worse controller xbox

it's not a "worse" controller, just not my preference. that and the X button is mush due to my brother's mashing.

Hello!! I'm having exactly the same problem you had. Could you please explain in more detail how you solved it? In my case, I have two controls (Ps4), one works and the other stopped being recognized recently and I want to solve it. Thank you in advance!! You are my savior!

How do you need more detail the man already explained it.
Go to control panel
Go to Devices and Printers
Uninstall the controller(s)
Plug in your controller(s) again
Bam fixed as OakThorn said it.

Sadly I'm bringing this topic back up . Once again my controller isn't being recognized by my PC, and I've done my usual route of trouble fixing, Trying to uninstall the device and have it detect again. Pressing the reset button.

This is getting annoying that every few months I need to fix my settings somehow to get the damn thing to work.
I just started having the same issue yesterday. Keeps popping up as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" for some reason. The controller's working fine on my PS4 and the USB cable still charges both the controller and PS4 headset with no issues.

Oddly enough, I tried plugging it in to my laptop as well and it gave me the same problem as on my PC. Makes me wonder if it's somehow an issue with the controller itself. Resetting it and uninstalling drivers on the computer have not helped.

Also worth mentioning that my PC had an update yesterday and my laptop had one about a week ago so this might be related to the problem.

Having the same issue. I'd imagine the settings are getting reset every time with Windows Update. Kind of frustrating, but... I guess that's Windows for ya.

Related problem here; my computer won't even recognize that a controller exists here, even after plugging it in to all the USB ports I have. I've installed and uninstalled DS4, and Steam doesn't see any controllers either. I've tried two different controllers, so I'm pretty sure it's a computer side problem, rather than the controllers itself.
