UPDATE, I just restarted my PC and steam deleted the game and all data, now have to reinstall it, real useful given I wanted to play at launch which is in 10 mins

That was the unpacking process. Give it some time to find out how fast it runs in the first place and don't cancel the next time.

issue with waiting is ive done that before and nothing has happened for a 4 hours on a 5 GB game update, the point was I needed it done fast so I could start off the new PoE league but steam has foiled my plans!

Downloaded files have to be unpacked. Truth is, for the vast majority of people on the planet, internet bandwidth is more limited, than storage. So the downloads are compressed and need to be decompressed. As is often the case, this takes a bit to get to full speed.

So, you HAD to wait anyway because that's how reality is.
You canceled.

It's not like there's a magic wand or something.

The unpacking process is critical and if you want it to be quicker then you need to get a faster drive. Just because it initially says 24 hours doesn't mean it'll take that long - you have to wait for it to settle down. Exiting whilst this is going on can corrupt the whole download and installation process all for the sake of waiting a bit more.

As I replied to ReBoot the issue was that I needed it to go fast and It wasn't, my drive isn't that slow being a fairly modern HDD, Its not the fastest thing ever but doesnt usually make me wait that long for an unpacking, I also find the fact it has deleted the whole game when installing an update a bit bizzare

If you just turned the pc off while it was writing to the disk, its not suprising that data was lost when it wasn't cleanly finished.
