How to appear offline on steam by default
Is there a way to appear offline on steam on startup as when I start steam I always appear online before having to change to offline

Go to Friends & Chat, select the cogwheel for Settings and make it so that you don't sign in to Friends when you login.

What Yasahi said. You can also put your online status on Invisible, you appear offline then.
