He uninstalled K-lite codec pack. If you don't have the K-lite codec pack installed, than the post won't help you. He also mentions alternative video/media players, but that's not part of the fix.

Sorry mate i cant remember but what the comment says above about K-lite its an awesome sound an video codec pack, just google K lite download. then pick the normal option i think there is 3 - basic middle and top packages to download. install run the tweaks and fixes and try again.
i always use that now because after a big win update it writes over sound files (dont know why) but sometimes it does. also it helps with films on dvd an blu ray.
