Dualshock 4 stopped working.
Hi there, after not playing for few days, now my PS4 controller has stopped working in Steam.

Its still detected in Steam and works in Big picture mode but doesnt work in any games now.

It now says "ps4 configuration support not active in settings" when it is,

Ive tried reinstalling steam and pairing controller back to pc but makes no difference.

Even selecting "Use steam configurations for non steam controllers" makes no difference and was never required anyways.

I think it might be to do with having it registered to acct but deregistering and re adding it changes nothing, it still automatically loads the configs from acct.

Anyone any idea how to fix this?

Thanks.

I am experiencing the same problem and spent an hour last night doing the same things you described. I'm new to PC gaming, so it is hard to tell if problems I run into are legit issues that need to be patched or I'm just super ignorant.

My situation looked like this...I was using a DS4 with Sony dongle. I got everything working in Big Picture mode with little problems. I had a lightning storm come through so I turned off the PC the proper way and left it off for a couple days. I rebooted it when I finally had time to game and couldn't get the PS4 controller working.

I only have a couple games I'm playing, Tekken 7 and Nier Automata. The controller is def synced properly to Bluetooth as it works just fine in the steam big picture menus. I even tried connecting my Xbox controller instead and it finally started working with Tekken, but not Nier.

Any help would be incredibly helpful. I'm really disappointed in the PC experience so far other than the visual upgrade.

Thanks for the update. Please keep me/us informed. I guess there isn't any point in me digging any deeper. It sounds like you already did every conceivable trouble shooting method. Here's hoping they fix it soon.

Ive just finished fresh installing Windows and the issue is still there.

Any game i try to change the controller config on says "ps4 configuration support not active in settings"

Its active, works in big pic mode and the controller is registered to acct again. Doesnt even work when unregistered and using guest profile.

It still works fine in any non steam game so its not an issue with its connection to pc.

I think an update must have broke support or some saved controller profile is corrupt as it loaded the profile straight away even after formatting pc and fresh installing everything.

Ive tried switching to wired and turning off bluetooth on pc, is still detected, ps4 support active and made no difference.

Im going to give it a few days and see if it gets fixed in an update.

I found a method that seems to have restored my in-game DS4 controls. I used the How To video on the website listed below and followed every step to the letter. The only thing I might have added was going into the control settings in Steam's Big Picture mode and disabled compatibility with PS4 and Xbox controllers. (I wanted to remove any cross-software confusion.)

Let me know if it works for you.

Thanks for the suggestion but thats more an emulator that makes the controller work as an xbox controller instead of using native PS4 controller support thats built into Steam.

I used to use the SCP driver to do same thing but stopped using it since switching to Windows 10 at start of year as it was causing issues with Playstation Now.

Ive also tried using an old ps3 controller wired but even when selecting "generic controller support" in Steam which is supposed to work, when trying to change the settings it still says "generic support is not active in options" when it is. Both controllers are working in Windows controller settings page and work in non Steam games.

The main issue seems to be Steam thinks none of the supported controller options are active in settings when they are, this is more a bug that needs fixed rather than needing a 3rd party workaround.

Glad you got it working though :)

You're right. Something is broken. Nier: Automata was working in Big Picture mode and now even with the DS4Windows emulation software I'm unable to do anything in that game other than keyboard.

I had less than 2 hours on Nier and requested a refund. In the comments I mentioned the reason why being the broken controller support. I know I'm just one customer, but hopefully I can get their attention with my wallet.

I got a fix! Go to controller settings, and set up your desktop configuration. I had the same problem, did that, and now it works.:steamhappy:

In the normal steam browser, not big picture.

go to
1: steam (top left corner there is an option that says ''steam'' right next to ''view'' friends'' ect
it will create a drop down menu
2: go to settings in that drop down menu
3: this will open a second window, look down until you see an option that says ''controller'' click it
4: click the option that appears in the window that says ''desktop configuration
5: this will open a new window called ''steam controller configurator'' if you have the same problem I and many other did it will have four large empty boxes
6: click browse configs.
7: select desktop configuration, if not available, you may create your own and setup your controller.

And that's it, should work, the 4 boxes should now be full of button configs

ah sorry, the desktop config is the one you use for browser use, if you want to use your controller for a game, go to the ''your other games'' tab in step 6 and setup your controller or use the config there

I had this same problem with my DS4, and I spent two days trying to fix it. I found a solution with the help of Adventuredude's comment above - thanks for that.

If your controller is working in steam big picture but not in games, try this-
Go to the controller settings in the way Adventuredude describes above.

Then: go into the "General controller settings"
Then make sure that the "PS4 configuration support" check box is >OFF<.

Additionally, make sure steam has >NOT< installed any drivers into your Hard drive. You can check by going into the hard drive and then looking for recent edits to any folders inside of the library file. If there is a file called "steamInput.kext" or "steamInput-DS4v1.kext" DELETE it. if steam asks to install a new driver for better support of your controller when you are in big picture mode, DO NOT INSTALL THE DRIVER.

It has messed with my controller but turn it off has made my controller work perfectly with all games.

I hope this helps someone because it took me way too long to find this solution.

Please note- I play games on Mac, and this worked for me. I don't know if this will work for windows.
