Cannot launch steam client... Stuck on "Connecting steam account:"
I know there's been threads on this before but none have helped me, this started in the last day or so, I cannot get into the steam client no matter what I do... Only steam browser. I've tried running as administrator, restarting computer, reinstalling steam, doing system restore, none of which solved it.

Is this a problem on my end, or is anyone else experiencing the same thing? If not any more suggestions of things I can try? Thank you.

Good to know I'm not the only one.

This is absoute bs. Microsoft forced a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Edge update which then caused this. Yesterday, everything was fine. Didn't give me a choise but to install a useless update to a useless program, installed it, and now this keeps happening. Whats worse, you cannot even delete the updates.

And no, force stopping steam from task manager, or flushing steam config does not help

Same here.
A forced update on WIn10 and then i was stuck on the "connecting Steam account" screen.
Thats crap!
Hope this gets fixed fast.

Try deleting your "steam.cfg" file in your Steam directory ( usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam) and try launching Steam again

Was unable to connect for 28 hours, and this solved the connection issue. I went through debugging the .net framework, reinstalling Steam, running numerous diagnostics and waiting for hours in between each Steam Support reply, and deleting this 66 byte file was the solution, although I didn't find this anywhere else. Would be great to have this in the FAQ.

I cannot find that file
Edit: I fixed this by resetting my router and computer a couple of times, but it is a temporary fix

I experienced a similar problem with my main PC. In my case the deletion of the steam.cfg file did help. My problem was related to my primary steam account; a second account didn't experience this problem.

I knew it was something in the steam directory since booting to a different Windows image still demonstrated the same behavior.

My steamapps folder was too big to easily relocate, so I installed a clean steam installation to a different location and used the files to replace the ones in the problematic folder, (excluding \steamapps and \userdata folders.)

for any poor souls who are without internet and don’t want to go through the hassle of deleting configs or reinstalling off a usb

what works for me to start in offline mode is going to adapter settings and disabling every connection (even the bluetooth! lmao)
