Don't know how to play Overcooked 2 together

Hey, I'm kinda lost.
I just bought Overcooked 2 and want to play with my wife, one using a PC/Windows 10, the other a Mac.
Usually we share the same Steam account (the one I'm writing with right now), but she has an account with access to my library (even though it says that Overcooked is not available for family sharing, but whatever...).

When we're both logged into this account, while she'splaying, I can "connect" to the game, but I have no control over it.

So we tried to log each one on a different account and launched Remote Play Together. But it doesn't work.
If the PC hosts it and invites the Mac, the Mac joins then gets a "Assertion failed" error. When we click "always ignore", the game crashes and we don't know how to fix it.
If the Mac hosts it and invites the PC, the PC joins then is stuck on the "Live Broadcast Stand By" screen, as if the Internet connection was really lame (even though we are just next to the Livebox and do not usually encounter Internet problems).

We also tried playing on the same laptop, on the same keyboard (enabling the "two player keyboard" thing) but even this (which is not the best option for us) doesn't work.

What could we do to fix this ? Is there another option for playing together ?
It's driving us mad so thanks in advance, any help would be highly appreciated.
